People have reported that, with the faster CPU, the boot time has been roughly halved.

No, it doesn't. To start, it doen't have Mobipocket. And it has some reported bugs. You see, it is not a final firmware version.

You may be furious with Bookeen for still not making available the promised firmware upgrade. I thing you are overreacting but, then again, I understand. But you totally lose your reason when mentioning (saying goobye) to the "frenchman".

I am sorry, but this is not the place for that kind of attitude.

Sorry, but you seem to be some kind of misinformed...

You've already got for what you've paid for. You haven't bought a share of the company or lifetime upgrades with new additional features. As an eReader the CyBook is OK and all promised stuff would be nice to have, but I can live without it.

Fixing bugs is a different story, but new features is more value for the same amount of money. They just add new features to compete against other readers and we benefit from this. I'm glad to have a product that can be upgraded so easily just by software.

I do not agree. The companies promises and attitude to releasing updates influences you when you by something. So if they do not live according to what they say they have broken promises that was part of the contract you made when you bought the product.

1. You've thought Bookeen (or any company) to be quick on information and releasing new FW?!

2. Try to decide that in court...

BTW: I buy my stuff according to what I want/need (= features) + the reputation of the product/company + best value for money. I don't rely on promises... Just my 2 cents!

The compagnie that we speak HERE has ONLY "promise" a futur ePub support nothing else. In fact they never really promise the ePub support, they just says that they will support ePub. They never say "on the 1th of may you all will have ePub on your Cybook Gen3"

There is a lot of reason to delay a release, and I doubt that Bookeen love to delay it and leave people angry with this.
If you really work in a software/hardware company you should know what is a blocking bug and how it can delay something, they can even sometimes completly block a project without anything to do against it.

With latest batch of Gen3 we saw a lot of problem, it seems that bookeen have some problem with this batch, due to hardware or software I don't know, but I'm sure they work on this, and this will prevent them to release a new version of the firmware with a 99.99999% warranty that it will not brick nearly all Gen3 on the market, and we saw some time ago that they prepare a new device, that I think will share a lot with the Gen3, but it will take them some unexpected time to do the software for. Knowing their manpower it's not surprising that they could be overloaded.

I have and I know (I'm a game designer), but at least they should be able to put a note on their webpage/blog (like "sorry, but due to some hardware problems the new FW release is delayed - we'll announce news asap.").

This'll cost them just some minutes...

No, they promised folder support as have been pointed out before.

Also they are still not complying with the GPL since the code they finally made available does not contain all code that is required.

Yes for sure, but I think their website is not so flexible (and I don't know who post in the blog, but yes here he (she?) could be more reactive

No, the GPL ask you to only provide the source code from GPL project. If you use Linux/uBoot and other things that is GPL in your device, the GPL doesn't force you to provide the source code of your own application, or any other closed source application you use in the device until it doesn't binary link with a GPL (not LGPL) library/application.

So Bookeen comply with the GPL.

No they do not. See other threads here discussion this. Some drivers were missing and there was probably a problem with the pdf viewer also. Notice that a lot of code in the kernel is GPL.

Come on. Would you pressure the manufacturer of your tv set or photocamera to issue new firmware? Give y'all Bookeen a break. The blog and the fw updates are extra, added value so to speak. They're not bound to provide any of that. Though I agree that they're missing out on an opportunity, 'cos good CR are highly appreciated.
And to buy a device like cybook based on the manufacturer's promises, well, that's just plain unwise.

And yes, I've said some harsh words on bookeen's address myself, but I should have known better. I wouldn't want to be in bookeen's shoes right now. These are hard times for small companies like bookeen. They're holding up quite alright, considering.
