That's apparently what the next version is going to be, which has the database and built-in Kepub changes. In any case those are going to be in the next Calibre release, whatever the version number.

I just released version 2.20.0, mostly to deal with changes in Calibre 8. The individual changes are:

Perhaps that logic is still there for earlier versions of calibre? The change in Kobo Utilities was to remove the driver switching option in calibre 8.

Yes, it's still necessary for older versions. The change was just to simplify the menu for Calibre 8 since there was no reason to change the code that detects whether the extended driver is installed or not.

calibre could not be started anymore, so I rebooted, removed the plugin and reverted to version 2.19.1 to get things working again.
I suggest thorough testing before re-issuing again ![]() |

What version of calibre? And on what OS? If you updated to calibre 8.0.0, did you do the manual upgrade to 8.0.1?

As can be seen in my first error log quote I'm on calibre 8.0.1, using Windows-10-10.0.26100-SP0 (=Windows 11) and I did use the MSI file to automagically update, which went well. I did prior updating remove manually the Extended plugin to be on the safe side.
Problems started after updating and using plugin 2.20.0. Now back on 2.19.1 and all is well again. Problem is that the plugin eventually prevented even to start calibre, which is serious. Last edited by DrChiper; 03-22-2025 at 03:18 PM. |

Interesting. I am on the same build level for Windows 11 though I am running calibre 8.0.1 from source. I have not tried removing annotation files since I use a different workflow for those.
Spoiler:
edit: I tried removing all annotation files since they are already backed up and did not get any errors. See attached image. OTOH, after removing annotations, I got UUID added to the In Library column. edit 2: actually a couple of books showed with AUTHOR instead of UUID in the In Library column. To make things even more interesting, I have never successfully used the annotations removal function before as it did always err.
I tried just now with 2.19.1 and got the following (different) error: |

In both cases the problem is reported in the plugin software:

I took a quick look at the PRs from when I downloaded the source to when 8.0.1 was released and none of them seemed relevant to the issue with the KoboUtilities plugin. OTOH, I'm not certain if the issue with UUID or AUTHOR showing in the In library column is due to Kobo Utilities or calibre 8. Time to spin up another VM and look at calibre 8 running in it.
