I am going to agree, however, that allergies would have to be right up near the top of the list. When your body starts to react against "normal" stimulus, and turns against you, well, I don't think an analogy with something I do get - migraines - is out of order. I hate the flu, I hate throwing up, I hate shitting through the eye of a needle, but I know that my body is simply trying to do something to get rid of a problem. With allergies, it's trying to fight a problem that isn't really a problem. That must be as frustrating as hell, especially when it can be so thoroughly debilitating or even life-threatening, coupled with having to identify and constantly try eradicate and avoid the provocation. Frankly, I'd rather have migraine.

Cheers,
Marc

Lucky me, if I leave my allergies untended, guess what I get?

Ugh! I'm sorry. Would a hot chocolate help?

Thanks. Tea helps (decaf tea at night, or peppermint). I think it's the steam. Sinus spray helps, too (the name-brand here is Afrin... I don't feel like going to look up the polysyllabic active ingredient name right now). But I can't use that more than a couple of nights in a row, or there's a terrible bounce-back effect.

I too find that "hot fluids that are non-dairy and non-caffeine" help. Miso soup is a recent discovery, though I think if it was infused with chilli or curry it would work even better (chilli seems to sometimes work wonders). Non-red-meat curries (particularly Thai) seem to have some benefit, and I'm wondering if some type of curry soup (laksa, but without the solid ingredients)? might be one for me to try. Someone once recommended the "Gatorade" type drinks, but thus far I've only found some okay relief with them, rather than anything truly curative.

I fight using the pills too - I'll try push a big one with some, but if it only pushes it away a little I don't take any more because I know the migraine will eventually push back much harder.

I hope you get past it soon, with whatever works for you.

Cheers,
Marc

I had kung pao shrimp for lunch (I rarely eat shrimp, but I let myself have it as a treat) and it helped. I think I'll go make a cup of peppermint tea, read on the iLiad for a bit, and then get some sleep.

Sometimes caffeine actually helps, but then I can't sleep, and I need to sleep to keep in good enough health to avoid getting a sinus infection on top of the allergies!
