Well again, there aren't any reviews yet as the device isn't shipping for a few more weeks.
When myself and other reviewers have actually spent enough time with the Oasis to make an informed critique, you'll start seeing useful reviews that go into detail about the factors each author finds important. I'm happy to include some durability testing. I omitted it from previous Kindle reviews largely because I have yet to break or damage one of my e-readers, be it a Kindle or a Kobo. My very first Kindle has been passed down through several family members and is still working just fine, so I've never had the impression that they're especially damage-prone. But that's just my own experience, I know others have had issues with theirs. |

MariusMasalar is correct, Katie.
Here's a video that shows two dismantled plates - one plastic, and the other plastic with metal bonded to it. (https://youtu.be/zSVo3_cmKpI) Relevant portion starts at 02:17. I don't understand German, but I'm 90% certain they're comparing the new frame to a regular plastic frame. Last edited by howyoudoin; 04-18-2016 at 02:54 PM. |

I haven't broken a kindle yet and I still have a working K1. I read that in an out of the case for 2 years.
If you going to break off the thin part of the Oasis, I don't think its going to matter what e-reader you have, its going to be dead. No e-reader on the market will survive that. No e-ink display I should say. Anytime you twist, you'd break it. So not sure why its more of a deal with the Oasis. I had my Voyage slip out of my hands a few times, thankfully while reading on the sofa. That is because its hard for me to hold on to it while pressing the page buttons. I think and hope the way the Oasis is designed, I'll have a much better grip on and it wont be going anywhere. As I know that e-ink is fragile, I treat it that way. I know stuff happens, but that would happen with any device, not exclusive to the Oasis. I know folks broke e-ink readers with covers on in the past that didn't have a think part like the Oasis. Just depends on how it hits it and what surface it hits. And yes, the german video is just explaining the coating stuff that the Oasis seems to have on the inside of the frame compared to the non Oasis frame thingie. |

Yes, I would buy it but only because I have recently lost my KPW1. So, I thought if I was going to replace my lost 4-year-old Kindle, I better replaced it with the one that has the most features. The most attractive feature is its feather weight.
The KPW1 feels pretty heavy while holding it with my hand. With its leather cover, it weighs about 338 gram and the cover is pretty hard to remove. The KO cover is a snap to remove. Without the cover, the KO weighs about 131 grams. That's 61% lighter ![]() Last edited by Julius Caesar; 04-18-2016 at 05:07 PM. |

I unfortunately cracked the screen on my first Paperwhite getting out of the car. It had the Amazon case on, but it opened when it fell from under my arm and hit the pavement face first. I always keep my Kindle in my purse now when out and don't take it out until I'm ready to sit down and read. Lesson learned the hard way. I also dropped an iPhone face first on the pavement which scuffed the Apple case, but the lip that surrounds the phone screen protected it and it was totally unscathed.

From a different German Oasis video, I have an important but um, unrelated question: is there an English translation of the intriguing looking book "Winston - Ein Kater in geheimer Mission" ? I can find that self same German title in the US amazon store, but alas, I cannot read German! He's a cute looking cat!

My answer is no, but not with a "never" emphasis. I think I'd rather have a Voyage, but if real user reviews for the Oasis rave about the screen and lighting, I could be persuaded to Oasis.
But, both will have to wait for an improvement in finances. |

I have the paperwhite and the voyage. I really don't NEED another ereader, but who knows lol .... I love gadgets, so I'll read reviews and decide if I want to buy it when they become available again. I noticed that BB doesn't have anything but walnut available. Amazon didn't have an actual shipping timeframe the last time I looked. I really like my voyage, so I'm not sure that I want switch to a new device. My battery on my voyage and paperwhite lasts a long time, so right now battery life isn't a big deal.

I skipped the Voyager so I was all ready for Amazon to take my money, but when I discovered that price was up there with an iPad Mini it got me thinking. When reading non-fiction I'm a profuse note taker, and I've begun to partake of Google Play Books on a fairly regular basis because I can have OneNote open too and slide it out on both Android and Windows devices.
So after much hand wringing I decided on an iPad Pro 9.7 instead. Sure that is way more expensive than the Oasis, but if I'm going to aim for a premium device, I might as well go all in. Twitter is to communications as haiku is to literature. |
