[Metadata Source Plugin] Kobo Books

I'm noticing lately that I'm often unable to download publication metadata, like publishing date, publisher, etc. There's an interesting remark in the log (below): "No scripts founds for book details metadata????"

Has anyone else experienced this?

Running identify query with parameters:

Same for me, and it only works if I put the actual kobo book id along the isbn, otherwise the plugin isn't working if it's only the isbn.

I've noticed it too.

Additionally: Last month, after I reported to the developer of Library Extension that the extension had stopped working on Kobo, the developer emailed me back mentioning a 'data source' had been removed from the pages. Given the timing, this may be related.

I notice that the publisher and release date info still exist in the HTML webpage code of Kobo links. It is still called "releasedate" for example.

How can I amend the python code so that the data can be extracted?

I have just updated the plugin to version 1.10.0. This update should fix some issues that were reported by some users and also contains other changes.

The updates are:

• Fix: Site change for release date, publisher, ratings and language - mentioned by @josephyw here
• Change: Fetch metadata directly if book has only ISBN identifier - mentioned by @gguigui here
• Update: Fall-back method to get series and genre info

Please post here if you find any problems with the update. If there's no issues, hopefully, some mod can help update the first post!

This update should fix the issues that were reported to me.

Unfortuanately, I have removed the fall-back method to fetch series information. This is due to the unreliability of the series metadata for certain books provided by Kobo that was used in the newly implemented method.

The release updates are:

• Fix: Remove fall-back method for fetching series info due to its unreliability
• Fix: Check when book has invalid ISBN identifier

As usual, please post here or PM me if you find any issues with this update.

I have a Kobo Aura N514 device. Does this plugin create a compatible text for my device when I convert it to ePUB format? If so, should I use this plugin?

No. This plugin downloads book informaiton from the Kobo Store.

Sorry, I am a pretty silence people.
I wanted to know if some of you still maintain this plugin.
Seems since some time it does not get anymore the cover from kobo store even if there is one and sometime not getting the publisher.

Post 171 has a unofficial fix (v10.1 ) after the original developer passed away.
You download, then use Preferences:plugins: load from file.


Nobody gave it a green light, so it has not been mad official.
Please report success in this thread And I will release it.

Hi,

I was using the 1.10.1 from changhuapeng since quite some time and was well working.
This is a new behavior, I think the website made some changes and the plugin need some adjustments. I do not know python and the way calibre plugins works to analyze what is going bad.

nAhu is correct. Recently the Kobo Books plugin stopped returning covers with any reliability.

Easy fix for covers.

In the worker.py file, change 4 to 5 and 5 to 6.

Find:

        cover_width_upsized = int(cover_node_split[4]) * 4
        cover_height_upsized = int(cover_node_split[5]) * 4
        cover_node_split[4] = str(nwidth)
        cover_node_split[5] = str(nheight)

Change to:

        cover_width_upsized = int(cover_node_split[5]) * 4
        cover_height_upsized = int(cover_node_split[6]) * 4
        cover_node_split[5] = str(nwidth)
        cover_node_split[6] = str(nheight)

I have made the changes and posted a new version with a updated version number.

Still a problem with other "eBook Details" like publisher, release date, Language
