My bluray player used to play ISO files. It got an update from the manufacture, after which it no longer could play ISO files. THAT is removing a feature. Anyone who bought that SAME MODEL player packaged after certain date also would find that feature missing. That's removing a feature. So would it be if Amazon kept selling the K1, and after a certain serial number, the slot stopped being included, or after a software update the slot stopped working. Removing it would have been doing a second production run of the original Kindle with the card slot blocked off. |

If the next model of your Bluray player doesn't include backward compatibility with standard DVDs, won't you say that Sony (or whoever makes your Bluray player) removed that feature? When OSX 10.6 (I think) no longer would run on Powerpc computers, wouldn't we say that they removed support for the older architecture. When Amazons comes out with the newer models of the Kindle, they sometimes remove certain features that had been on the older Models. Just because we agree with their decision (as I have in each case), doesn't mean that they haven't removed features from the line. |

I am very happy to have a phone and ereader without SD-card since they then can use better quality for all the memory. And I totally hate handling SD cards. The cloud is such a better solution. |

But remember, this goes back to this comment: Quote:
I would not buy that Sony bluray player without the DVD compatibility, because I have a lot of DVDs. I'd buy a Kobo LG player that did have the feature I wanted. If I didn't have DVDs, that feature may not be important to me, and I might buy that player based on it's price/features compared to my needs. If the market in general stops caring about DVDs and buys mostly players that can't play them, I would expect for most manufactures to stop including that feature in most models. When Amazon made the Kindle Touch and it had no page turn buttons, the people that wanted the page turn buttons said that Amazon took away the page turn buttons. And that's exactly what Amazon did.

...but this is not a reason to strip it out of the product line. would we still be arguing the point? Since his original post could be read that way, perhaps we can just move on to the next issue. Quote:

Unfortunately, you and they are wrong about that too (for the reasons extensively discussed above).... And I would just like to point out that this post may just be venting, in which case I can understand your purpose, but I cannot fathom how this is supposed to be proof, since all you have done is made a judgment. |

Indexing isn't the problem, Amazon's insistence on using their cloud IS the problem and the reason they don't offer an sd card. You can do anything you want, as long as you do it the way Amazon tells you. It seems. Personally, I'm waiting for reviews of the production version of the Kobo H2o before I tell Amazon "ciao, thanks for the memories but you don't get to tell me how I should be using an e-reader" (and maybe add a [edited - MODERATOR] somewhere along the way). Am I angry about this? Ya think? Last edited by Dr. Drib; 10-03-2014 at 08:14 AM. |
