but if you are on the road with only a basic kindle, & 3G wifi, that's very inconvenient. So if you are your 10 limit you can't easily return one & get another one without access to a PC.
Not according to Amazon. The returning on browser / computer is not the only way. Any device can. See:

Would you be kind enough to quote the section of that page which describes how to return books other than using the web browser on the Kindle or PC, please? I can certainly see no such option.

I would guess it might be the same with this new venture.
The money available for this lending is the same pot of money (as I understand it) as the prime lending. Although right now I think the pot is set at 2 million (they have a total and then it gets split across all the borrows). That's on the high end. That number fluctuates from month to month and we SUPPOSE that it has to do with how many people are signed up for prime. But we don't really know.

I would imagine if they have lots of signups for this lending, that pot would be bigger.

I'm finding it very interesting to compare the SCRIBD reaction/thread when it first came out to this one. SCRIBD had enough romance titles to entice quite a few mobilereaders. Amazon doesn't seem to have that advantage as most are looking for the big publishers. Keep in mind that SCRIBD didn't get at least one of the publishers until a couple of months in. Maybe Amazon will be able to pull that off.

Of course, as an author, watching this thread and the comments, I'm relieved there's no real reason for me to feel I have to put a book in to see what happens. I detest going exclusive even for 90 days, but sometimes it is necessary to get a book off the ground. I've got two new titles coming out this year and had/have no plans to go exclusive. I hope I can stay that way!

Ahh yes, I see now. They reworded it since I posted. It is still there. You will need to use the store - just like you would to browse new books on your kindle to borrow from unlimited. From the link above:
Quote:
From your Kindle device or free Kindle reading app:

Open the Kindle Store.
Access the Kindle Unlimited landing page:
Kindle eReaders: Select All Categories, and then select Kindle Unlimited.
Kindle Fire tablets: Select Kindle Unlimited.
Free Kindle reading apps: Select Kindle Unlimited.
Select My Kindle Unlimited Books, and then Return.
Edit: What would be the point to return a book from the device unless you plan to borrow a new one right away? I think it is good that returning and borrowing is done in the same place. Considering that you can get to the description of the book by long clicking on it - and it takes you to the store - may even give a shortcut if the book is on the device. The KU return a book is also different than KOLL, that still only lists the computer and browser as way of returning a book.

Well yeah; but when it also includes content that can't be returned, the practice is very unethical.

Additionally, Amazon has a federal lawsuit hanging over its head for in-app purchasing by children. I hope they get nailed to the wall over this.

Shame on Amazon!

What a convoluted process. Definitely not very intuitive. Amazon should have the return option in the drop down menu accessible from the book; plus it should be an option on the store landing page.

Yes, I agree. And it may be on the page of the book, maybe not. It might be the only way to return a book that is on a different device - as you would not have access to it directly.

Agree, ability to return the book from within the kindle app / device would be great. Using a PC to do returns isn't horrible but in-app / device returns would be more convenient. I'd bet this will be a future enhancement to kindle app software / kindle device firmware.

But you can, that you have to fight your way through 50 steps in the store is what is the bother right now. It does work from device already, Even without having to resort to the experimental browser. Still not easy enough unless the book has a option "return book" on the options similar to "delete from device"

The store on my PW is not the same as the experimental browser. If you consider them the same, my apologies for my misunderstanding.
