Where did you hear that? If you don't sit on it or tread on it or throw it into a backpack unprotected, it should last you a lot longer. This household still has a Kobo Touch and Glo, each bought as soon as they were released in Australia, in regular use. By an 11-year old boy at that. They have, of course, always been kept in decent cases.

The several-generations-ago Kobo Wifi is being bricked by a firmware update, but Kobo is replacing those devices with Kobo Touches for nothing.

Hello Meeera, I actually read about the build quality from various e reader sites, including this one. But I have decided to purchase a Kobo Aura, it appears to be best for my needs.

I have an ipad but reading outside is a joke with the glare, and the drain time is a hassle.

Kobo appears more readily open than Kindle, but Kindle appears to be pretty much the global standard .... I was thinking of the PW2. My problem is I can not get a definitive answer on which is the better investment. I know Amazon has an extensive library and may even have the potential for the Lending Library in Canada .... But the Kindle is not as open as the Kobo.

That said, with all the talk about Kindle, how long will Kobo be around .... So I am stuck. Any help will be appreciated ...

Take a look at PocketBooks. You have to order them from the EU, but they are great devices. I am ordering an Ink Pad when they are released in a few weeks.

I love the Sony PRS-350. It doesn't have Wi-Fi so books need to be side loaded from a PC, but Calibre supports it well. Also means reading position isn't synchronised. No built in light, but the screen is great.

Hi Rps,

buy the reader that you like!

All (not DRM protected) books you can convert to the required format and read on the reader with the free software "Calibre."

I love the Kobo Aura HD due to its size of 6.8 ", the resolution of 1440x1080 pixels, the lighting, the internal memory of 4GB flash and a slot for a microSD card.

Honestly, the slot for microSD are not actually needed because the Kobo except books does not serve any other media. Who wants to constantly carry thousands of books around with you? I have about 40 books on the Kobo and there are still 3,055 GB of free 3,253GB ...

Interestingly would be a Reader, the addition also an audio interface would have for me.

love greetings

It depends what you're reading - some manga readers take to the Kobo Aura HD, and they may well need SD cards in order to carry a reasonable number of volumes with them.

I like my Nook HD+. I like the ear-phone plug so I can listen to the music I have on it (in MP3). I like the compliments I get showing off my photos I store on it. I like being able to read ebook (epub) and pdf documents. I get online once in awhile as well. For me, it is easy, useful and fun.

I currently have 3560 books on my Onyx T68 (an eInk Android tablet with the same screen as the Kobo Aura HD).

I read on a T3 at home and on travel and with Cool Reader on a Galaxy Ace 3 phone when out near home. The two are synchronized so I can read the same book when I switch devices. Unfortunately I cannot synchronise bookmarks between the devices. On the phone I occasionally use the ebook.de reader app when reading ADE-DRMed books. Most of the time I'm reading from the fantastic German language shelf at mobileread.

If you're an avid manga reader, and don't like to open up calibre regularly, the internal memory will fill up quick

And me. I carry several thousand with me on a 4GB SDHC card in my old JetBook Lite. Sometimes I just like to search through the library and pick an ebook that catches my attention on the spur of the moment.

I'm just recklessly spontaneous like that, sometimes!

I just like to....not that I need them all on the device, of course. My kobo Aura HD has 1462 MB of 3253 MB available. 6766 MB of 7572 MB available on the SD card. 4967 items on the device.

I had a Sony, one of the earlier ones. It had a card slot that I used quote often. My daughter borrowed it for her studies as she could load tons of her readings in PDF format on it. I say borrowed as I never got it back. As I recall it also displayed photos, which I had one or two archived, and it also played music. Too bad Sony is out of the business as, while I had it, I thought that it was a good device. I am hoping that the Kobo Aura I am considering buying will be as good.
