In "books", "collections" and "items", if you hold down the "page x of xx" appears a box of "go to page..."

if setting the light level to 2% in the UI does not work (for me, everything below 10% got magically converted to 1% and therefore a non-lighting front-light on the next button press), you can change the setting by editing .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf:

Code:
FrontLightLevel=2
worked for me

No. What happens now is there's a tile for "added" (be it one or two hundred) one tile for recommendations, another for pocket and apparently one for beyond the book. Of course the book you are currently reading gets its own tile and other books you are reading might get their own (I think it's two or three recent activities that get their own tile.

Is there supposed to be a double tap to the middle of the screen feature that turns the light on?

It appears in the new features pop-up window, but I cant find the icon, for both kobo kepub and sideloaded ones.

What I missed?
I doubt you've missed anything. This feature is only available in true kepub's and only on certain books. The selection of books it's available on seems to be pretty small as yet. I haven't found any in my library that have it yet so I can't tell you exactly how it works, but at least one person in the beta did find a book with it.

With firmware 2.10.0 there is an extra cover image generated: there are now four images for each book, instead of the three previously.

The new image ends in " - AndroidBookLoadTablet_Aspect.parsed" and is generated for epubs from the first page of the book when the book's details page is viewed. (For Kobo-bought kepubs this image seems to be dowloaded from the server, as it doesn't appear unless wifi is enabled)

The new image suffers from the usual problems associated with generating cover images from the first page, so it would be good if a future Calibre version could send this image along with the other cover images, to avoid having the device generate it.

Okay - is it only the new Aura that's got the light turn on/off swipe through the middle of the screen?

Correct; the new Aura's capacitive touch screen allows such multi-touch gestures. The Glo and Aura HD have IR-based touch screens which do not support them.

I've seen the feature active in The Hobbit.

It's interesting but too me at least, it's not a deal breaker.

Yes, it is a two finger swipe and as such it requires multi-touch. Something that Kobo has only implemented on the Aura's capacitive screen from what I know.

I've had it show up on at least three books that I've read since I got my Aura (and I've had it less than a month). It picked up some bits of Irish mythology in a fantasy book I was reading (it was interesting to read the real details of the mythology and not the alternative version usedin the book). I also had things show up, including a beyond the book tile on my home screen, for the Colorado Kid by Stephen King (the beyond the book tile was details on another one of his novels so it wasn't of any interest to me). Unfortunately I think that that's it for this book. It seems to work on algorithms since in the book with a lot of mythological terms a lot of info was collated while the Colorado Kid which has a more small town vocabulary has very little popping up.

It still has room to grow but from my experience it's off to an auspicious beginning (like I said, in my experience).

I don't know what is going on. I saw those during the beta, but only on the Touch. I had a look and had some on my Glo. To check where they came from, I deleted them all. They aren't being recreated. I am just getting the same three covers as we always had. And the details screen is "N3_LIBRARY_FULL".

You're right, the new image doesn't get generated for every book, only some.

Edit: Scratch the 3:4 aspect ratio theory. I can't see why the image is generated for some books and not others.

I have tried copying a new image to replace the AndroidBookLoadTablet_Aspect one, and the new image is used on the details page.

Last edited by GeoffR; 11-06-2013 at 12:06 AM. Reason: 3:4 ratio theory doesn't fit.

Is anyone else noticing a delay of over 5 seconds when using the power switch to enter sleep mode after upgrading to 2.10.0? The wake up seems to be normal speed.

David

Well now it seems every single sideloaded epub is getting a AndroidBookLoadTablet_Aspect.parsed image generated as soon as I open its details page, I must have been mistaken when I thought that some weren't. If I delete the image and power off the Glo then it is generated again the next time I view the book's details page.

The size of the AndroidBookLoadTablet_Aspect.parsed image is 355x479 on my Glo, so it doesn't make any sense to generate this image, better just to use the N3_LIBRARY_FULL.parsed image and save wasting a lot of battery power and storage space.

I'd say around three but yeah, there's a delay and it's really annoying. I think it didn't register the button slide so I slide it again so it sleeps after a few seconds and turns on immediately.
