Has anyone figured out how to get rid of the hidden fonts on the Paperwhite? They're pretty much useless and annoying with the spaces between apostrophes.

@Stunatra: Err, what? (It's 6AM, I may not quite be up to sentences longer than 140 characters ^^).

I'd have gone with a ghostbuster gear, what with the 'invisible'/'ghost' thing ;p.
And to get back on track: nope, still utterly puzzled at the OP's sentence, even after a good night's sleep. |

Mind asks: "How can something hidden be annoying?" At which point my mind bogs down with "compute errors". The only thing I could come up with was a physical approach to eliminating the annoyance, fonts and kindle. @Stunatra: Please restate your question, with a better description of what you feel should be changed. |

Well if you're aware of the Paperwhite font hack then you also should know that there are hidden fonts on the Paperwhite, and once the "hack" is applied, you can see them, and other fonts you've added to the device.
So my question is, is there a way of removing the once hidden fonts from the device so that just the ones I've added and the default ones remain? It clutters up the Font Window with fonts I'll never use because they're (I guess) configured for other languages and too annoying to read in English. Sorry for not being more clear, and thanks for any help. |

@Stunatra: Right, that means you're with a FW version where the Aa menu still 'works'
![]() Then, yeah, there's a dedicated button in the KUAL extension (Fonts > Fonts Hack Behavior > Hide CJK Fonts) to hide the CJK fonts, which is itself an example of how to do it manually if more fonts need to be hidden ![]() |

Never used the KUAL extension. Just the USE_ALT_FONTS blank folder and a new fonts folder in the main directory and that's it. Now my Kindle updated yesterday and this hack no longer works. The KUAL stuff seems way too complicated.
On a good note, the updates have made the default fonts look a lot better, and the Kindle seems to run faster, and it has that nice flip-through feature. |

Does Amazon do this on purpose? Why can't we have an easy way to read the fonts we want to without all this hassle?
I guess I can convert the books to azw3 with the fonts I want to read. No risk of bricking the PW. |

@Stunatra: In this case, I'd say yes, they weren't just being evil. Despite being undocumented, it was potentially a support nightmare, because it was basically implemented like the software version of a game of Jenga: and thus ended up one of the very easiest way to soft-brick a Kindle
![]() Embedded fonts (in KF8 files) are indeed much safer. At worst, you break the rendering of *the* book instead of bricking the device. One of the purpose of this hack is to add a (thin) layer of safety around the process. Last edited by NiLuJe; 05-24-2014 at 09:36 PM. |

I'm guessing that was in reference to the install process, not KUAL itself
![]() I can indeed see how the thread *could* look a bit scary (or overwhelming, at the very least) ![]() ![]() So, @Stunatra, if that was indeed what led you to that comment: you can basically sum up that whole thread in: 1. Jailbreak your device. 2. Install MKK. 3. Put the right KUAL .azw2 file for your device (meaning -KDK-2 for Kindle Touch/PW/PW2, the other one for anything older) somewhere in documents/ 4. Enjoy! EDIT: Hey, we're in the Fonts hack thread! So that could also have meant the whole fonts override thing through KUAL, which, yeah, granted, is a little clunky (and not terribly easy to explain in a quick & effective way), but not that painful once you get the hang of it. And also hampered by the fact that the verbosity of this specific first post is *really* by design, because as I mentioned earlier, the safety nets are thin, so better be safe than sorry ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 05-24-2014 at 10:04 PM. |

Sorry if you don't mind spending a few minutes answering my stupid question;
*. I got KUAL running and I can see the "Font Overrides" and "Fonts" menu. *. I couldn't get custom fonts to display. I have put them under /fonts folder and also under /linkfonts/fonts folder. Did I miss something? |
