And BR,
The menu is circular, if you use the Up arrow, 'Sort' becomes selected next.

Yes I know, I can't think of any that are otherwise, except some Delphi programs but they don't last 5 minutes here.

I press Menu Key ↑ for Modify, ↑↑ for Count Pages, ↑↑↑ for Convert, ↑↑↑↑ for Edit etc. I use ↑ rather than ↓ because when my right forefinger presses the menu key, my ring finger is naturally positioned over the ↑. To press ↓ I have to bend my ring finger quite a long way to a position where I have less fine motor control. My hands got injured, which is why I avoid the mouse for intensive work, so these things are important to me; as they are to people who have arthritis, suffer stroke or are similarly impaired.

So I would prefer that the last item in the context menu is the same in both Book View and the Cover Grid view.

Most programs don't provide any ability to adjust their context menus.

One of the things I really like about Calibre is that fact that it can be driven from the context menu's, and even better, that they are configurable as to what's in them and how they are arranged. IMO it would be a pity to break with that 'fine tradition'.

I missed this one - I don't use windows explorer as my main file manager, I use xplorer2. And I don't often use the thumbnail view in Windows Explorer or xplorer2. When I'm looking at images my starting point is the iMatch application - think Calibre for images.

I know where your coming from, but... I don't really have a problem with Sort applying to all the books in the View, as I said it could be useful to have the ability do an ad-hoc sort.

That's why I think should in the context menu whether one is looking at the list (details) or the grid (thumbnails), those that don't want it can keep it in the Available actions list or move it where they want it.

There are more than a few people who don't get the 'click' on column header to sort on it, not only in Calibre, in any application, so they might like it to have it in both places. I use View Manager to do most of the sorting I need.

Fixes:

1) Fix deleting books failing on some windows machines
2) Improve rendering speed of the cover grid when scrolling using the slider in the scroll bar or the mouse wheel by not rendering intermediate covers between the start and end point.
3) Show authors in addition to title for books that have no cover in the grid view
4) Make the spacing between covers in the grid view configurable
5) Fix search highlighting not working in the grid view
6) Fix true/false searches on numeric columns
7) Fix errors when merging books that have the same tag

Very good. The only bit I don't like is that if I grab the scrollbar, drag it down a bit and stop but don't let go, the covers don't generate. But, I would rather have the overall performance over that.

Looks good. I can read them while scrolling and it is easy to spot the books missing covers.

Works well.

I am getting to like the cover grid view a lot.

I didn't notice this, but now that you mention it I think of this as a feature since it gives you a chance to view where you are at. As long as you don't release you can see where in the list (in my case) authors you are currently positioned. And the grid view functions better than I had imagined it would.

In Cover Grid if I edit a cover (I used IrfanView via Open With) then there's no obvious way to get the thumbnail to refresh, it still shows the image thumb prior to edit, tried Resize, went into Book List, I can see the edited cover in Book Details, Edit Metadata, Cover Browser and Book Information.

If Edit Metadata->Trim is used on the edited cover the thumb is refreshed - as I said - no obvious way. Also obvious is that if I edit the cover with an image editor then how does Calibre know I did that. I can live with the Trim, but lets say someone edited the cover to add a border would Trim take it away.

Sometimes Page Down does not show last couple of rows of thumbs, Down Arrow also doesn't work in this situation - must move the slider with mouse or roll mouse wheel to see last couple of rows - or press Ctrl/End

There's no way calibre can know when you edit the file in an external program. Just use edit metadata and drag and drop the cover to refresh it. Since the down arrow key moves the current item, how is it possible that you are not able to see the last row with it? I cannot reproduce that.

As does Click to open->DragDrop cover.jpg to Book Details I'll stick with Trim - it's faster.

The Generate Cover plugin refreshes the thumb in the grid, but the Resize Cover plugin doesn't appear to do so (even though the cover is resized) - I would have thought both would write a new cover.jpg

As I said its only sometimes - but I can make it happen at will - I think

Using a library of 3338 books with a 12/5 grid, gives 278 full rows with 2 in last row.

I progress down the grid fixing covers (with Irfanview, Generate and Resize) using the keyboard to advance and move around the grid, until Page Down sticks on a full row - sometimes the last full row, sometimes the second or third last. If its not the last full row then down arrow will advance to the last full row, but not to the last row with 2 covers.

If the Page Down sticks then the position at which it sticks - last, 2nd last, 3rd last etc - seems to depend on prior actions.

To not get Page Down sticking - I make the first book current, the first Page Down will move current to first book in fifth row - page contents remain as is. The next page down will show the book that was current, at the top of the page, and the first book in the last row displayed will be the new current. If I keep pressing Page Down, the first book in the last row will always be current book and eventually the last row of two books will appear and the first on in that row will be current.

To get Page Down sticking - if I move current book off the last row during the process of moving down the grid, e.g. to generate a new cover with a different picture, and then I resume pressing Page Down, its fairly certain that Page Down will stick shortly before the last row.

Ctrl/End will advance the grid to the very last row of 2 books, as will dragging the slider with the mouse left button down, or rolling the mouse wheel.

Fixing 200-300 covers in this 3338 book library was a heck of a lot easier and orders of magnitude faster than anything else I've tried. 90% of the fixups were via the Generate & Resize plugins, with rest via Irfanview

I had the one for programmers for a while - 16C? The LCD was replaced 2 or 3 times, eventually I trashed it, and went back to using the TI Programmer. The TI is with me now and still working. I bought it in 1979, so its almost 35 years old; how many of the gadgets that we use today will be working in 2047, let alone be useful.
