But you won't be able to just connect to calibre and just send to device from the library like I can on my ereader right?? Since when you connect it it wont create a drive letter

The Nexus 7 should work fine as a standard USB mass storage device when you connect it to your computer. It's just that the Nexus won't recognize when you plug a USB mass storage device (thumb drive, external hard drive, and so on) into it.

I don't know about Jelly Bean, but Ice Cream Sandwich devices do not appear in Windows as a mass storage device with a drive letter. Instead they show up as a media player. I don't know the details, but with ICS Google switched to a different connection protocol.

ICS has mass storage mode. Some devices have removed the option, but most still let it be enabled by a setting change.

Yes, that's the case with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 running ICS. It connects as a "Portable Device", not as a drive. Doesn't matter for manually copying files from Windows Explorer, but it does mean that Calibre can't copy files directly to it.

So there's no option to change this on the GT 2, like in (at least some) mobile phones?

I can connect my Samsung phone as a USB drive, although it isn't completely obvious how to at first.
To do it I go into settings - wireless and networks - usb utilities and pick connect as mass storage. Although I generally just use wifi or dropbox to transfer things around. |

What happens if you connect with WiFi? Will Calibre recognize the device then? |

It can connect to the Calibre server - that works fine. I haven't really tried to find a workaround, because to be honest I don't really use my tablet as a reader, but as a video player. I read on my Kindle. Copying files manually to the "Kindle" folder via Windows Explorer is good enough for me.

I just hope that Asus will release its Asus Memo tablet of which Nexus is a stripped down, crippled version. Memo has sd card slot, hdmi and what not, Tegra, and the same screen resolution and price is not going to be high. And I don't like the unproportional bezel on Nexus. As I don't like the look of T1. And that no landscape mode in home screen. No, no and no.
For the past two days I was fiddling with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 in shops. It is hard to wait when you get this urge for a new shiny tech gadget... |

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the Tab 2. I have the 7" version, and find it to be excellent. It's a little more expensive than the Nexus, but I think that its extra features, such as an SD card slot, HDMI output, and USB-OTG support for mass storage devices, are things that are worth paying a little extra for.
