Demand for popular titles is always going to outstrip supply. My strategy is to avoid these (for the most part) and choose something else to read that is available to read when I'm ready to take on another book. I find there are plenty of things available.

I'm usually running at full capacity with finishing library books on time as it is, so it does me no good to have a wait listed item show up when I need to finish another book first.

Why avoid a book just because it's popular. If you don't mind the wait, just put it in hold and you'll get it when it's your turn.

Sounds like a great volunteer opportunity. Thankfully, the library in my city does deliver to anyone who needs it, but it is a rather small, wealthy town.

This is an amazing concept the "somewhat" equalizing of access to libraries. Especially those that also have pcs for use along with music, dvd, VHS, legal references, and on and on.
I think I can get behind it, if some accommodation can be made for the elderly and handicapped.
