So both readers were on display at my local jbhifi(midland WA) unfortunately I think they'd just been unboxed and turned on as one was on the setup screen and one was receiving it's first charge so I was unable to play with either. I really liked the feel of the quilted back on the Kobo but am still leaning towards the Sony it looked slick and was incredibly light and thin.
Ps I went next door to officeworks and they didn't have anything yet Last edited by melmac; 10-20-2011 at 06:01 AM. Reason: Additional info |

Wait, I can only see the newer Sony Touch on JB's site, and nothing on Officeworks' site. It's just really confusing in here - the past couple of pages have just been about Sonys. So are you guys talking about the Sony Touch models or the Kobo Touch?

Anyway it's looking like you might have some options for getting one soon. The Officeworks and jbhifi news is great - one wonders if anyone was reading our posts speculating suitable local outlets for AU? I was umming and ahhing about pointing my old man towards getting the SONY since the Kobo was nowhere in sight, but it seems that he might be able to look at both of them and make his own call. He's pretty up on ordering things online, but I know he'll like just being able to get it instore. I hope this also means that some of these places stock some cases/accessories too. In need of a good book light. |

jbhifi do list, at least I see them via viviena's link provided above. Here is a direct link the to Kobo Touch: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/portable/mp...der-sku-71144/ The fact they list (I assume) means that they will have them instore now, along with the new SONY T1. Third post, I know. Sorry, I don't normally multipost, but I also noticed when checking out the new Vox that the eReaders page (http://www.kobobooks.com/ereaders) has "coming soon online" under each. If I'm not reading this wrong, is this some indication that Kobo may start selling their readers directly? Makes a lot of sense if so.

Kobo used to sell their WiFis directly, or at least they had a storefront with shopping cart functionality for various ereaders and bundles. I don't know if the entire transaction was handled onsite or if the customer was redirected to Chapers.ca/Borders during the process though.
I visited my local JB HiFi @ Parramatta. Disappointed to see them tucked away in the camera section, with no demo units available---'we don't have any chargers to set them up with'??---and the salesperson seemed to know little about the products. I noted the KT was marked $178. There were also lighted and standard covers available for the KT, both $40, one of which at least appeared to use elastic corners. I was keen in particular to check out a Sony T1 unit and just see how the ereaders were being marketed in general, might have to go to the CBD instead. |

I checked our local JB Hi Fi store yesterday and they did have the Kobo Touch, the previous Kobo and also the Sony T1 on display in a glass case with the prices mentioned earlier.

Went into my local JB hifi to catch a glimpse. I asked a salesperson where the ereaders (using a catalogue and referring to the kobo in it) were and he directed me to the tablets. =.= Probably not on display yet because I couldn't find them anywhere. (although I have one, it's exciting to see it in local stores heh)

That's okay
![]() Well I had a play with one in JB last Friday, it was very exciting. On Saturday, I was at the checkout at Officeworks, and they had a Kobo Touch box on the counter. I asked if it would be available soon, and they said it already was. Price was $179. Didn't see any on display though. It's good that they're finally here, it was great to play with one. Won't be buying one yet, but with Christmas coming up... |

Went to the local JB today and they had both the Kobo Touch and the Sony version out on display. I had a play around with them and was impressed.
I may have to give my Kindle3 as a xmas gift to a nephew. I wanted a Kobo touch a while ago but couldn't order one (with out going through a freight forwarder) So I got a Kindle3. Dose JB sell any covers for it, I only had a quick look but couldn't fine any. |
