What I found impressive was the start-up time; my original Kobo takes about 35 seconds but it looks like the Touch takes just 1-2 seconds. I don't know how this compares to the Kobo Wi-Fi (second gen Kobo)?
Actually, it looked like every time she opened up a book the camera was turned on and off to wait for it to open...very strange. If you look at the demo videos from the Kobo official release, the books seem to take quite some time to open. Then David Pogue in his NYT review of the BN and Kobo touch devices said the Kobo was noticeably slower (and he had a great line, that the quilted Kobo back looks like a queen size mattress for hamsters).

I didn't realize that the Nook Touch has side page turn buttons. I really like that feature, but not the file structure and front screen ads. Does the new Kobo touch reader have side buttons also?
I'm also debating between the Kobo and Nook. The buttons on the Nook are actually quite difficult to press, unlike the easy ones on the Kindle, so it's probably just easier to tap...I'm not sure how each device would work for tapping with the thumb of the hand holding it, as I do when reading on an ipod touch, but the Kobo would seem to be easier, with it's narrower bezel. But then I've somehow survived turning actual pages over and over for several decades, so I think the plush back of the Kobo, the narrower body, and the slightly smaller weight might make it feel better to use.

Of course I just saw that Borders in the US is about to ship the Kobo--except for the blue one I ordered, which won't leave until June 24.

And we know how accurate Pogue is, LOL.

Seriously, Engadget said the Nook software was buggy and it froze twice during the time they played with it. I don't take that kind of review all that seriously, either.

Quote:
The reader is a little buggier than we'd hoped for-- outside of reading, the touch technology leaves a bit to be desired, and the freezing puts the overall stability a bit in question.

I do like how the feature set on the Kobo Touch stacks up vs. the new Nook Touch from B&N , but if the Kobo is not an Android based device, then that's a big negative for me in comparison to the Touch Nook.

Has anyone seen a definitive answer on this question.

Is the Kobo Touch Android based?

Chapters has them on display. I went by earlier to get a book for my gf. It loads books faster than my Kobo wifi. Page turns are about twice as fast. There are more font sizes to choose from.

Honestly, it's an improvement over the current Kobo. I don't think there will be any gripes about it that don't also apply to any other ereader.

Sorry to hear that, VERY SORRY. I like Kobo, and have bought from them, but this was a HUGE SCREW UP.

From what I read here, the Nook Touch's Android OS has already been rooted, which means that the capabilities listed by B&N are just a starting point.

I look forward to a Nook Touch that also runs Kindle's Android App, which would give me a single eInk device that I can use to read books purchased from B&N, Amazon, Borders, Sony, Google, and of course, Kobo.

The Kobo could have been in the running, but Sorry - no Android = No Sale.
