if you like that, might i recommend the lyric stylings of l'Attirail (balkano-parisian gypsy orchestra, with accordeon *and* trumpet, and a drum section made almost entirely out of cooking pots (really)). they do a version of that song as well. i wanted to share specifically that song with you but while i was trying to find it (i have 3 of their cds) i kept getting distracted by how great all the songs were and forgetting what i was looking for.

but you can start with The raki raki's sweets and El ultimo smoke, preferably played loud and / or with really good headphones. make sure you push the furniture out of the way, you won't be able to stand still. if you like those, i highly recommend that you listen to the albums "musiques des préfectures autonomes", then "dancings des bouts du monde", then "harmonies communales" in that order (click on the album links in the deezer pages).

when i discovered l'attirail about 10 years ago they were playing in a tiny café on the canal near the Gare de l'Est, in the middle of the afternoon. the café was so tiny, and so packed with people for the concert, that they had piled the tables on top of each other in the back of the room to clear the floor, and on top of the tables were more people. the band was crowded in a little corner in the back and everyone was dancing and shouting and clapping their hands. i think the entire building was actually swaying along with the dancers, from their enthusiasm.

since i'm too short to see much if i'm in the back of a crowd, i climbed on a table as well and that was the begining of a beautiful story between me and l'attirail... for several years after that (until all the original members but one left the band to have children... don't you just hate when that happens...) i never missed a concert in every tiny café in the city and became friends with the musicians. one evening i had a near religious experience while dancing with the trumpet player, who was playing as he danced with me. the stuff of legends, i tell you. amazing band.
