From the news reports I've read it's because they use BLUE LEDs to light the screen instead of white LEDs. That's why you see the blue-ish border. The blue LEDs are supposed to help with the color accuracy of the screen.
But I understand why people don't like that stuff at all. Once you see these things it's pretty hard not to see them anymore.
The first time I saw un-even lighting on my monitor I couldn't stop seeing them for a whole year. And on my iPad mini I had this speck on the screen that just annoyed the crap out of me until I stopped being lazy and finally went to the Apple store to replace it.

I've only had the PW2 for a few days, but so far its been great. I picked up the sleep cover with it, and the 2 work together very well. Probably not news for many, but its nice to just open the cover, read, close the cover, put it down, repeat. Kind of like a book! Now the question. I had a couple uninterrupted hours to read on a plane this week, and I found the PW2 getting heavy. Not sure if this is because of the cover, or if I'm just getting old (maybe both) but I don't remember thinking this with the Kobo Touch. I just checked the website, and it is heavier, but not a lot. Does anyone else feel the weight of the PW2 after a while?

My replacement came today. It took 24 hours for it to arrive to Melbourne from Cincinatti, but it took 3 days for DHL to use Australian Post to deliver it from the airport to my house which less than 20 kilometres in distance. Anyway, the replacement is much better. No pin holes, the light is more even, the screen is less yellowish. It is actually whiter. However, it was a bit dusty... I tried to rub it off... but could not. I took my Kobo Glo out and compared. My Kobo Glo screen is much cleaner and whiter without the light is on. I am an English learner so I will keep it because of the Vocabulary Builder feature and the ability to add English Vietnamese Dictionary to it.

"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Flaws are the same. We are all bothered by DIFFERENT flaws and designs.

My KK 2009 kept freezing up when I brought it to Church. For me that was only major flaw I've seen on all my Kindles. It was also very embarrassing when I started bragging about its features and, when I opened the cover, it was totally DEAD.

Yeah I know see I've had two HDXs now the first one had a faint haze to it and I love it but it started flickering like the brightness went crazy so Amazon replaced it with this one and this one has a bright neon blue border around it that shows even on pics!

Despite what Amazon said they messed up BIG time and turned a Kindle into a non reading device. Many and I do many are returning it because they can't read on it.

I wish mine was that thin! It's wide it bleeds into margins. You must set the margins to 40 on a readers app or it will bleed into the blue.

With free hand of course. Just like with PW1, no more nor less. That is why I always let the device to lean something. If in bed, then to the bed or pillow. If in chair, then to legs. On the plane I suppose the tray would be a good table, but I haven't flown anywhere with my kindles.

I read the PW2 is heavier than the PW1 on several review sites though the weight does not specify that. I guess they changed something.

If you want a truly light travel reader the Kindle Basic weighs nothing. Well it weighs something but you really can't tell it's so light! The Kindle Fire HDX feels lighter than a PW with sleep cover which is funny because the specs say 11 ounces but it's so thin you wouldn't even know it. The Origami case on the HDX weighs a ton! I bought a different case and the weight change from it is amazing! My two heaviest Kindles are the Kindle Keyboard and the Original Kindle Fire.

PW2 than PW1 is lighter according to specs and also by my own measurement (my review with the measurements: http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,165383.0.html).

I did compare PW2 Wi-Fi to PW1 3G, though, but the measured difference is still larger than the reported 3G component weight. In grams: Roughly 9 g for 3G and 7 g generational weight loss are the factors on paper.

So on paper a PW2 Wi-Fi should be 16 grams lighter than a PW1 3G and 7 grams lighter than a PW1 Wi-Fi. In practice my mesured difference was a little less.

1 gram is 0.035 ounces.

My PW2 has already been on a long international flight. I find it helpful to use the seat tray as an arm rest while you are reading.
