Recovering from my team's Christmas lunch today (alcohol free, at least for me, due to long drive home), and making up for it now with a glass of red wine. On holiday as of this evening until next year .

I saw old pharaoh's daughter bring Moses from the water
I'll lick the guy that says it isn't so

I was born about ten thousand years ago
There ain't nothing in this world that I don't know
I saved king David's life and he offered me a wife
I said now you're talking business have a chair

Yeah, I was born about ten thousand years ago
Ain't nothing in this world that I don't know
Saw Peter, Paul and Moses playing ring around the roses
I'll lick the guy that says it isn't so

Older than dirt! I have friends in Heaven who think I went the other way 'cuz I'm not up there with 'em!

Good morning all! Happy Winter Solstice to all you Druids and Pagans. (That's religious Pagans, not Pagans Outlaw Motorcycle Club) I hope you were able to find enough bones to decorate your trees!

Cold and clear today, and hot Assam tea from the East India Company to warm me up, fresh croissants to fatten me up, and a good wife to cheer me up! What more could I ask for?

Will you ask the gender of the baby before birth, or wait and be surprised? There are benefits to both.

I'm getting myself ready to go to Thailand to have that same surgery. My knees just don't do what they are supposed to do any more. How long was your recovery period? I'm not looking forward to the down time...

I was standing the evening of the surgery, walking (with a zimmer frame) the day after, and went home after the third day. Was on crutches for a couple of weeks, then a cane, then nothing. But it took close to 6 months before I thought it was 100%. OTOH, by the end of the first week I was essentially pain free. Well, except for the pain during physical therapy, as we worked to make sure I retained as much range of motion as possible and built up the strength.

Finished my Dragonwell, and the second Dragonwell. Now, a cup of Peet's Pride of the Port.

Have a good holiday, astra. We'll miss you. This main forums here are likely to be hopping right after XMas, but it will take them a while to find our little home here.

Thanks. I've been doing a LOT of leg work at the gym three times a week to get ready for this. I want everything working 110% before I have it done. Because of the pain, I haven't been doing any walking or skiing for quite some time, and scuba diving and motorcycle riding just don't do much at all for upper leg strength.

I'm going to have this done in Thailand rather than here. Japanese doctors love Looooooong hospital stays. Even a broken leg with a walking cast patient is asked to sleep in the hospital for a week after casting, even though they go out during the day! They told me I'd have to remain in the hospital for at least four weeks following the surgery... The Thai ortho guy told me 3-4 days. Nicer hospitals too...

On my third cup of Assam tea this morning!

Thanks, but you didn't miss anything. I do NOT have a broken leg. But I do need a knee replacement as soon as I get my act together and have it done. I just tend to put off unpleasantness as long as I can. I'm a wuss... Did you see where CRussell said he had pain for a week? That's enough to make me put off the surgery for the next 17 years!

Waiting for DH to come back from collecting the mail and picking up a cappuccino on the way home, that's after he's hung out the washing. There are a few (very few) advantages to having a broken wrist and that's one of them.

Stitchy I know a couple of people who have had knee replacements and they are so pleased with the results. Here in Oz they chuck you out of hospital as soon as they can. I think the secret to a good result is being absolutely dedicated about the physio and the exercises they give you to do, no matter how much it hurts. When I broke my leg just under the knee about 4 years ago I couldn't bend it at all, but I worked really hard at it and now have full movement. Go for it I say.

Good luck to you for the operation, Stitchawl. I don't know anyone with a knee replacement, but my sister-in-law had her hip replaced a few years ago and wondered why she had put off having it done for so long.

Nothing in my cup at the moment as it's mid afternoon here so I'm between beverages.

An (unusual) touch of insomnia means I have sparkling lemon and lime with zero added sugar in my cup at far too early an hour of the day (4:27am)

Back to bed soon, once I've caught up here on MobileRead.
