The knowledge that is imparted by the tree's fruit is the ability to distinguish good from evil. Before they ate it, Adam and Eve were naked, but that was all right because they didn't know it was a bad thing. Or didn't sin exist before they ate the fruit? Or were they living in sin but that was all right with god because they didn't know it? Like all Old Testament stories, it's rather confusing and intriguing. Certainly raises way more questions than it answers, IMO.

Also, an interesting aspect to the story is that God chases Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden because he is afraid that after the tree of knowledge, they will find the tree of life - and then they would be the equals of God. Obviously he can't let that happen, so off they go.

Let me tell you a little story.
When I was in elementary school in the early 1970's, I had a nun, Sister Noreen. She was very strict. Liked using a wooden ruler on students. One morning, I was getting my books from my locker while a classmate, Patricia, was about 3 feet away, chatting with several other girls. It was the day after her birthday and she was showing off her new earrings. Sister Noreen stormed over, yelling that young girls do not wear jewelry. She reached out, and yanked off Patricia's earrings. Sadly, Patricia had just gotten her ears pierced. It was awful. But it did end the hitting. Eventually.

Maybe. But it's my new therapeutic approach. Saves time and gives me more availability to go sailing.

We have nuns here at the medical center where I work. This particular branch are very compassionate and epitomize what I have always felt nuns ought to be. I never went to parochial school, but my friends who did had horror stories. My trope for evile nun teachers is Sister Mary Elephant.

Well, yeah, there are bullies of ALL sorts in the world. Mine used to tease me and then cry and run off to teacher when I hauled off and hit them. Yes, I was a violent child - to those who picked on me. Then I discovered that snark worked better and avoided teacher reprimands - and repeat performances
