Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre

Hello, I skimmed really quickly through both of these threads, so forgive me if I've missed this along the way.
Is there someone working on this through Calibre side of things?

I'm old school and still add all my books through Calibre [sideload via PC/usb], so this is frustrating/upsetting.

The NoDRM developers seem to be investigating it, but the problem is that KFX is very difficult to break (Amazon has 40 versions of it, so they can simply deploy a new version when the current one is broken).

Not just ku. Seems to be rolling out to all past purchases. My entire library is now unavailable for....
And it was not like that 2 days ago.

Usually, self-published authors on KU are using the KDP Select program, which forces them into exclusivity (of course, the exclusivity deal doesn't apply to the major publishing houses ). So it's "don't buy books on KU."

except, if i take up a free trial subscription to KU, then the books are free , to me < so long as I don't forget to cancel the free trial, later.>

i've lost count of how many free trials amazon jhave already given me, but they are waving the offer of another 30 days free in my face whenever i browse

anyway, we were debating whether such books can still be downloaded & if so, then how... not the merits of the KU scheme

i just bought for £zero, one of the 6 first reads kindles on offer thsi month to prime customers

its published 1 fef 2023 says the web page, so it should not be available for download, right

but it did.
go figure

FYI the first read selections ae offered a month early, then they migrate into Kindle Unlimited at the end of the offer month. so will its download status change when it migrates ?

ps in case this is a fluke, I can still choose my 2nd free reads. and test that later.

Do you mean using download & transfer or using an old version of Kindle for PC?

Only the second of those methods is tied to the publication date. (At least for now.)

I suspect it is tied to how you obtain the book. If you purchase it, even for free, you should be able to download & transfer. If you borrow through KU then you won't be able to do that.

Apologies for deviating from the thread topic, but I've seen Google play books mentioned here - is there a thread on site that tells me how to use it, ie download and strip the drm through Calibre? I searched around but haven't found anything - my site search foo is lacking.

They use Adobe's DRM. Either get Adobe Digital Editions or the ACSM Input/DeACSM plugin for Calibre.
