I *would* like to try the book-cover screensaver, since I never get to see the book cover, the way I currently use my kindle! I still have ads; I only view the "text titles" version of the home index; and opening a book starts *after* the cover. I never see the covers, unless I actually look for them.

Still, I haven't yet wanted it enough to pay to remove the ads, little though that cost is. Plus -- without the ad, doesn't my magnetic cover opening take me straight into the book anyway (no pause to swipe), and I still don't get to see the cover-as-screensaver? So it hasn't seemed worth it.

You're talking Oasis right? When I open mine from the magnetic cover it shows the background for a sec while it loads. No swipes.

I had to pay $40 for that. But I despise having to look at advertisements featuring people smiling at random objects proselytizing stuff I don't care about. So... I had to do what I had to do.

Ahh, good to know! I need another bit of time to decide if I'm going to keep the Oasis (slippery; slides away if holding it in one hand), but after that I'll look into this.

I guess that means they are not (yet) taking any action to remove the jailbreak survival code.

Tried to do this on pw2,
however i waited almost 2 hours and update button still is blank, when i connect my kindle back, file is no longer there. Tried this 3 times, still nothing.
I have 5.8.8

The firmware version of my Kindle is 5.8.8.

And I try to login as root using serial console.

But, all passwords generated by below site is incorrect.

The 5.x Kindles are dual boot.

There is no root password for the 'Main' operating system, only for the 'Diags' system.
There has not been a root password in 'Main' for years.

You will have to interrupt the boot of 'Main' and use uboot to manually load and run 'Diags'.

Using the indices in the sticky thread area will lead you to a serial jailbreaking tutorial -
You should find the information you need contained in that thread.

If not, start a new thread for your situation, this is the thread for the software jailbreak, not for a manual jailbreak.
