Not really a rant, but listening to my neighbor using his leaf blower to clean his driveway (right under my windows!) makes me nostalgic for the comforting sound of a rake, or a broom. Those sounds aren't annoying at all, but this leaf blower noise just gets on my last nerve...

and speaking of that, when in the hell did it become acceptable to blow your trash into the street or someone else's lawn!

I hate those things with a passion!

We have some fairly new neighbors in our court who manage to generate trash that blows over into everyone's yards. Two days ago my wife witnessed our next door neighbor, who had evidently had enough, picking up all the trash in her yard and dumping it over their fence.

Wonder if they'll take the hint? I doubt it. They're really bringing down the appearance of the court.

Second floor? Hmmmm.

Have you ever considered putting things in flower pots? You know, flowers on your window ledge? OOOPPPS, one just happened to fall off.

Speaking of trash on the street;

When I lived down south in the land of the hot sun I had some dogs wander around on trash days looking for a meal. Now this was a suburban area and these weren't stray dogs. Somebody turned them loose each morning.

As everybody knows, I'm a real nice guy.

But I don't care to spend much time picking up ripped open plastic trash bags. So....

I started putting about a third of a cup of sudsy ammonium in each bad and tying the bags as tight as I could.

The bags were ripped open exactly twice. Problem solved.

I have no problem with the power and HDD LEDs, although I wonder why they have to be bright enough to light up the room. A lot of casing now have LEDs behind the front mesh (even the seemingly standard casings) and the gaming casings have "windows" on the side of the casing which are also lighted.
It seems that, at least the local, computer shops think desktop PCs are only for gamers.

I think the affect is olfactory. Cloudy ammonia smell, suddenly released directly up the nose of a dog as it pierces a well-sealed bag, is possibly like having two, screaming, sparking, black-smoking, freight trains released up your nostrils on an ugly collision course with your hindbrain. I suspect it would be a reasonable (though relatively harmless) dissuasion.

Cheers,
Marc

And yet the smell doesn't bother my cat. She'll sniff it right from the bottle. She probably thinks it's some other cat's pee.

I guess it'll deter every cat but mine. I had a bottle of ammonia out and wanted to see what her reaction would be, so I put it near her so she could sniff. She sniffed curiously with no real reaction; almost as if she sniffing another cat's scent. Now, if I had been peeling an orange, she would've grimaced at the citric acid, backed up and ran away. Citric acid would keep her out of the garden.

A quick google came up w/ this. I can't confirm it with any other cats, but it would work w/ mine.
