You put the code in and clicked 'Apply', (or similar name), and it did not take the code? |

True, but you can still enjoy the music on a normal system, but it won't be in DSD. |

I see that that you signed into the DSD Guide webpage; whereas, the freebie is on Primephonic. Perhaps that's the issue (?) |

not that it did me any good.... until I switched browsers. Firefox just refused to co-operate, but adding the four albums (one I got in FLAC and DSD, to compare) and code worked like a champ in Chrome. So, did anyone find a freebie other than: The Sound of Piano in Hi-Res - Nareh Arghamanyan primephonic SELECTED: Christmas - FLAC only DSD vs FLAC vs WAV (DSD-version) - Mari Kodama, et al Last edited by koland; 04-25-2017 at 09:00 PM. |

But, here's some free downloads. I'm telling about them on the condition that someone will make a post and let the rest of us know how good the artist is (because I don't recognize any of their names), and any other useful information like that (yes, I know that that stipulation is not enforceable, so I'll say please . . . .) Go to this Blue Coast Music Group webpage. They list 6 free DSD albums: Ordinary DSD: - Jenna Mammina Lotus Blossom from Close Your Eyes - Valerie Joyce & Michael Wolff Silent Sky from For Heaven's Sake - Jenny Maybe & Nick Phillips Interstellar from Haiku (link is external) Quad DSD: - Meghan Andrews Johnny Colorado from Blue Coast Special Event 43 Surround DSD: - Rob Ickes & Tony Furtado Darcy Farrow - from The Blue Coast Collection Surround (link is external) After a little thought, I guess that the artists have to be of a certain level of quality, else no one would produce DSD's of them . . . . Oh, I knew that I was forgetting something . . . . you'll have to register with Blue Coast Music Group to receive these (and future) albums free. Information about how to register is about halfway down your first screen at the webpage that I referenced earlier. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-25-2017 at 11:09 PM. |

If you have a computer, then you can play the download - just not in DSD.
I use VOX for quick-and-dirty - just to quickly hear something I've downloaded. After that, I add it to Audrinna (software) and carry my computer into the Living Room, where I connect it to my DAC (which will 'decode' to DSD) and which is already connected to my McIntosh MA7000 Integrated Amp. |

Thanks. I was wondering what I was going to do with all of those DSD's on my hard drive, since I didn't have the "software and equipment" (I presumed) on my computer to play them. Good to know that they will play.

Here's Wednesday's YourClassical free piece.
Again, the day's free piece comes from a composer whose name that I don't recognize. The composer is John Field. The song is Nocturne No. 7. Get the YourClassical freebie of the day in the usual way. Proceed to the dedicated webpage for the day's free piece, and click on "Direct MP3 download link." I know that this sounds cruel of me, but since the composer has been dead a long while (d. 1837), I won't feel very bad saying it. This song is rather dry and boring; extrapolating from this song, it may be that I didn't recognize his name because these are characteristics of most, if not all, of his compositions. Everyone has different tastes, though, so please try it out for yourself. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-26-2017 at 12:06 PM. |

If I try working on computers or related equipment, I'm sure that someone hexes me. It seems like I always run into bugaboos that other people don't.
At the same time that I have this problem with dsd-guide, I've got a dead wireless router. I work out of my garage now, having the computer hardwired to the modem. And there's no functioning printer here. I don't want to drag the laptop into the main part of the house just to print something, and I don't want to drag the printer here. I need my own, personal (free) IT guy. |

On a more upbeat note (no pun intended) . . . here is today's YourClassical free piece!
It is Alexander Glazunov's Chant du menestrel for Cello and Orchestra. Although the cello is the instrument being played in the piece, the notes played on it are so high that it sounds almost like the violin, to my untrained ears. While the URL changes each day, the place to download the MP3 is always the same--YourClassical's dedicated webpage for the day. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-27-2017 at 05:49 PM. |

The last free piece from YourClassical for this week (M-F) is Gustav Holst's St. Paul's Suite: The Dargason.
Download the MP3 from YourClassical's dedicated webpage for this free download of the day. The piece has lots of ups and downs--both in volume and tempo, although the tempo is generally very fast. It is orchestral music. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-28-2017 at 11:24 AM. |

If you're on Naxos' newsletter mailing list, you should have the free album download offer for May in your email inbox by now. I have no link to an URL to give you; you must access the offer from your email message.
The album is produced by a company called Orfeo*, which is a new one to me. The title of the album is Händel: Concerti grossi, Op. 6: Nos. 1, 6, 10, 12 • Das Alexanderfest. You can get either the MP3 version of the album, or the FLAC version (is there really a choice here? ha) Later in the month, we will get to choose one album free, from three choices. Actually, I think that I prefer this present giveaway, where we have one choice (well, I guess if there's just one of 'em, there's not a choice, then, is there? ha) giveaway even though we are limited to just one "choice" with this offer. With the second giveaway, I sometimes I spend an hour or more trying to decide which one of three albums that I want; with this one, the "choice" is made for me. This free offer is good "until" May 31, 2017. My advice: go ahead and download it now, so you don't forget about it. If you are not a subscriber to Naxo's newsletter, you can sign up at the bottom of their homepage. * I just found out that it is a German company (URL: http://www.orfeo-international.de/).
