Both The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and A Closed and Common Orbit, aka the first two books in the "Wayfarers" series by Becky Chambers, are on sale for $2.99 at the usual suspects. (Seen at Amazon US and Kobo, so presumably it's a publisher promotion - probably related to the third book coming out in July.)

Both books are generally well regarded, and the second was a Hugo finalist last year.

Star Trek specials for May (supposed to be available until June 3rd)...

Hell's Heart (Star Trek: Prey book 1) by John Jackson Miller
Quote:
When Klingon commander Kruge died in combat against James T. Kirk on the Genesis planet back in 2285, he left behind a powerful house in disarray. Now, one hundred years later, while on a diplomatic mission, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise are snared in the aged Klingon trap—and thrust directly in the middle of an ancient conflict.
The Jackal's Trick (Star Trek: Prey book 2) by John Jackson Miller
Quote:
The Klingon-Federation alliance is in peril as never before. A Klingon cult rampages across the stars, and a mysterious figure known as Buxtus Cross launches a scheme that will transform the Klingon Empire forever. Into danger flies Admiral William T. Riker and the USS Titan, charged with protecting the peace forged nearly a century before during the Khitomer Accords.
The Hall of Heroes (Star Trek: Prey book 3) by John Jackson Miller
Quote:
As hostilities increase from the Unsung, Commander Worf returns to the USS Enterprise and Captain Jean-Luc Picard with a daring plan to preserve the Empire and the Federation alliance. A plan that may hinge on an improbable savior leading a most unlikely force.

Titles are $1.99 each and available at Amazon (US), iBooks, B&N, BAM, Google Play & Kobo. Offer page has links to the various stores...

Kobo is holding a weekend 99¢ sale. These sales are usually dominated by self-pubbed and small-press titles -- and that's the case here, too -- but if you cursor down to the Science Fiction section you'll find World Without Stars, by Poul Anderson, and The Sheep Look Up, by John Brunner.

World Without Stars in particular is an old friend that I was happy to find again! (But I really preferred the original Ace paperback cover illustration!)

It's a weekend sale, so it's good for just 4 days. The sale listings start here:

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/p/99sale18

Not the original poster, but I think the idea is, if it's self-pubbed and you can say you read and enjoyed it, please add a comment to say that.

The first post in this thread only says this:
Quote:
Please don't post any self-published books (unless you have read them yourself, think they are excellent, and you're not connected to the author in any way) ...
But I've seen others post on self-pubbed works and specifically say they've read it and it's worth checking out.

Fortunately that's something you can fix yourself using Calibre! Just change the cover image and convert into the same format, Calibre will change the cover for you. Hopefully this is the correct cover, click for the full-sized image, it's pretty large:

That's exactly the idea behind it, as long as you've read and enjoyed it, it's fine to post.

No conversion needed. You can do an 'Embed Metadata' and that will also update the cover.

There appears to be an Open Road Media sale on (according to The Portalist):

https://theportalist.com/may-sff-sal...term=The%20Alt

It looks like US only (as per usual...) Clicking through, I see the sale prices but can't purchase them.

(Although I picked up a copy of The End of the Matter from Kobo at £1.91:

https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/Book/the-end-of-the-matter

For some reason, Gollancz/Gateway doesn't have that one and it wasn't in my sale purchases at Christmas.)

TOR.com DRM free book on amazon. 99 cents short story

Author of Annihilation ( book now a movie)

https://www.amazon.com/This-World-Fu...ll+of+monsters

For a short story its a tad hard to read but good. Disturbing end to the human race as we know it.

I did not understand it and the story did not click till I read it all. Artwork of cover is outstanding and pretty much sums the book up
