Special thanks to TM for the great work and help in this thread, to skinmaan for continuing to return and add new things for us, and to everyone that adds and continues to keep this great thread going.

Will there be a new thread started today to continue for another year?

Thanks again to everyone for a great thread and I wish everyone a Happy New Year.

I'm out there on a lot of web sites and I can say that this little corner of the world is becomming THE place to look for all of the best audio deals, and TM deserves a lot of credit for that.

Bravo!

I appreciate the kind remarks and would like to also thank everyone who has contributed to this thread; especially skinmaan, who really comes through with the deals.

Remember, this thread is a team effort and that's what's made it the success it is.

...and thanks for the orchid tlaine; that's pretty cool

You're welcome. No new thread planned. I'll just continue using this one. As daunting as this thread is with over 1600 posts, the secret to using it lies in the opening post. There you'll find the current deals and detailed info linked elsewhere.

Ya know, it sure would be nice to have a separate audiobook forum, hint, hint, wink, wink, nod, nod, etc, etc

Happy New Year

Downpour Deal of the Week - exp 06 Jan
  • $3.95 - 1984 - George Orwell
Quote:
One of Time Magazine's Best 100 English-Language Novels from 1923–2005

A 2008 Audie® Award Finalist

Blackstone Audio presents a new recording of this immensely popular book.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police, a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities’ will and people live tepid lives by rote.

Winston Smith, the hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him. He knows even as he continues to pursue his forbidden love affair that eventually he will come to destruction.

The year 1984 has come and gone, yet George Orwell’s nightmare vision in 1949 of the world we were becoming is still the great modern classic of negative Utopia. It is a prophetic and haunting tale that exposes the worst crimes imaginable: the destruction of freedom and truth.

She has written numerous successful historical romance novels under her maiden name, Marion Chesney, including the Travelling Matchmaker and Daughters of Mannerling series. Using the pseudonym M. C. P G Wodehouse

Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE, (/ˈwʊdhaʊs/; 15 October 1881 – 14 February 1975) was an English humorist whose body of work includes novels, short stories, plays, poems, song lyrics and numerous pieces of journalism. He enjoyed enormous popular success during a career that lasted more than seventy years, and his many writings continue to be widely read. Despite the political and social upheavals that occurred during his life, much of which was spent in France and the United States, Wodehouse's main canvas remained that of a pre- and post-World War I English upper class society, reflecting his birth, education and youthful writing career.

Ian Fleming

Ian Lancaster Fleming (28 May 1908 – 12 August 1964) was an English author, journalist and naval intelligence officer, best known for his James Bond series of spy novels. Fleming came from a wealthy family connected to the merchant bank Robert Fleming & Co., and his father was the Member of Parliament for Henley from 1910 until his death on the Western Front in 1917. Educated at Eton, Sandhurst and the universities of Munich and Geneva, Fleming moved through a number of jobs before he started writing.

While working for Britain's Naval Intelligence Division during the Second World War, Fleming was involved in planning Operation Goldeneye and in the planning and oversight of two intelligence units, 30 Assault Unit and T-Force. His wartime service and his career as a journalist provided much of the background, detail and depth of the James Bond novels.

Damn, it's not available in the UK.

I would like, though, to add my thanks to everyone that contributes to this thread. I don't think I've ever posted news of a freebie or bargain, but I've benefited from plenty :-D Many, many thanks, and I promise to post details here if I ever find a freebie or bargain elsewhere.

There is a thread in the Reading Recommendations forum called What are we listening to? (audiobooks) where members post about their audiobooks, the narrators, and do ask questions.

I haven't look at the beginnings of this thread in 10 months! I just click on the last page LOL Well I still think we need a Forum of our own... Who wants to but into some one talking about a book to ask about players?? Seems rude to me! On this thread we are not really talking about 1 ebook or abook LOL since its mostly about whats free or cheep at the moment so asking a quick question not so intruding to me.

It is odd, but hey ho. At least I've got the ebook, and read it in paper years ago.

It frustrates me slightly that Downpour don't make it more obvious that books aren't available to me. I have to look up purchasing options to see that.
