Check the current firmware version on your kindle. This jailbreak only works for versions prior to 5.8.8.

I have my Kindle Paperwhite 2 in version 5.4.5.1 with Jailbreak and hack margins and font size.
If I update KP2 to the official version 5.8.8, would I lose the margin hack? Sure this question was already done but I do not speak English and I find it very difficult to translate all the posts to look for the answer. Thank you very much. |

While waiting for the expert, I *think* the answer is that the Jailbreak will stay in place, even for 5.8.8. BUT you have to reinstall all the other hacks. This is true for any version update. The Jailbreak which allows the hacks stays put; you reinstall all the hacks themselves.

@badgoodDeb: margin hack is firmware version specific because it's done by editing some .jar files. And while there are pre-edited (and packaged into .bin installer) files for fw 5.4.5 buried somewhere in "JBPatch" thread there aren't any for newer firmwares. Because user @kaznelson who was creating those user-friendly installs for margin hack stopped doing that after fw 5.4.5.
@jicho: Margin hack wouldn't survive firmware update. While the same type of hack should be possible on firmware 5.8.8 the problem is that you would have to do necessary edits and that requires certain skill set that typical user doesn't have. |

I once knew a young lady (university student) interested in something similar: pattern recognition. She went on to a management position on the HP, PA-RISC development team. Don't let anyone knock: Hobby+Education. She started out in a Liberal Arts program, but her hobby (computers) took over. I have been doing this stuff for a long time. Like any industry, there is a tendency to meet a lot of people in the same industry. Last edited by knc1; 04-03-2017 at 08:12 PM. |

I just got a new PW3.
Had to login to activate it so I could start following directions. I validated serial number and checked the current version (it was at 5.8.2.1), but then my kids got my attention and I left it for a bit. Came back and found it had auto-updated to 5.8.8 before I even had a chance to put it in airplane mode. Am I out of luck now until a new jailbreak is found for 5.8.8? |

Correct, your SOL.
Complain about something to C.S. (uneven front lighting - that is subjective), send it in for exchange, tell kids to go play in the street while you jail break it. |

But I have to ask why? What is your use case? I am pretty sure I handled every situation. |

I'm about to jailbreak my Oasis - do we now ignore step 7 because we obviously don't want to update to the very latest firmware?
