Off topic, but a post a couple of pages ago talked about the distractions and cell phone conversations at the local coffee shop. That reminded me of this:

If you don't want to read it all, just play the youtube video that is the second item of the page.

He wanted to know what time I usually have the lunch, so he can come....that is when I snapped. I didn't want to give him any false hopes or expectations. I told him in a very polite way that I love my lunch breaks because I get away from the work and I want to read a book. To leave the RL matters behind for a short while.
I think(hope) he has understood...I don't know. I cannot say I don't care because I didn't want to upset him or damage our sort of a light version of friendship. Then again, I am very selfish and I actually don't care. I need my privacy. I am introvert. If he cannot get it, tough. Life is a bitch.
Sounds like you handled it very well and nicely. He may be more embarrassed than hurt, but either way, he hopefully understood. I do the same thing at work. I like to try to hide somewhere and read and eat. Doesn't always work out that way.

On a side note, I think I've gotten the "unapproachable" look down pat. I don't think I'm a true extrovert or introvert. I enjoy company when I'm "on" and when I'm not, I just want to be alone. I am more of an extrovert than my husband, but then I hit a point where I just have to be alone. And that's when my unapproachable look pops out.

Having been left alone now for a few weeks, I had thought that I had the "leave me alone" vibe down pat. But this morning I guess not. What is it about the busy typing on my iPad, whilst having headphones in, obviously listening to music, whilst drinking a nice cup of peppermint mocha in starbucks, means you can even think of touching me on the shoulder and asking the blatantly stupid and obvious question, "is that an iPad? I've got one of those".

And then you had the nerve to look shocked and upset when I retort quite loudly, "Well if you have got one, why the [expletive deleted] did you interupt me, to ask such a blatantly [expletive deleted] stupid question?"

And I've just remembered it's the same guy that touched me back in October, when I was sat in exactly the same place.

Yeah, right.
I'm with you on that one. I only go to malls when I need to visit a specific store for a specific prospective purchase. Curling up at home with a book is much more pleasant for me.

Perhaps one of those black leather zippered covers would make the reader look like a bible, and that will keep people away.

In my search for just the right cover, the bible look is something I'd prefer to avoid, for just this reason. I already look like a pentecostal woman with my long hair, lack of makeup, unfashionable attire, but I'm fiercely secular. I don't want to look even more like someone who carries a bible around everywhere. I love people, I relish those chance encounters, I don't want to fend them off. So I don't want a black leather zippered cover. But maybe some of you do.
