The Editing E-book Metadata section is empty. I wanted to have a look at the new Regular Expressions Introduction.

There's some weird stuff going in on the search & replace feature: The "Use comma"- box gets grayed out everytime I begin to mess around in the dialog- I haven't found when or why yet. Also, search & replace only does the first book in the selection.

EDIT: I just figured out the comma thing: It happens as soon as I want to use title as source and author as destination, so it might be by design and not broken.

Also, the plugboards seem to only work partly. I set the plugboard
Code:
epub:CYBOOK [{author} - {title}->title, {author_sort}->authors]
and dumped some books onto the Cybook. What I got was (confirmed this with ePubReader on FF) title == " - {title}" together with two author fields that contained the last and first name, respectively (the Cybook displayed only the last, ePubReader displayed the last one first, I'm guessing this has to do with {author_sort} containing a comma).

Oh, and while I'm at it: The icon for the plugboards frankly looks horrible... I can't even tell what it's supposed to be.

Is this a problem with plugboards? It sounds like the information you asked to have in the books is in the books.

When you copy a field to a multiple (authors is multiple), it separates on ','. This behavior simulates what happens if you have multiple authors to begin with. If you send a book with multiple authors in calibre's metadata, does something different happen?

The title issue is because you spelled author wrong in the first template. That was the major reason I first insisted that the user make a composite field, then use that.

It is a plugboard. A real one. I stink at drawing, so I got a free photo.. If someone produces a 'better' icon, more power to them.

Yes. It forces the use of comma whenever you are sending a non-multiple field to a multiple one. S/R must have something to split the field on.

The multiple fields are authors, tags, and text/multiple custom fields.

You're right. Retested, worked. Sorry about that. Although I happened upon another error, the plugboard I first tested was
Code:
any format:any device [{authors} - {title}->title]
which Calibre responed to with
Code:
ERROR: Fehler: Fehler bei der Kommunikation mit dem Gerät

epub

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 69, in run
  File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 337, in _upload_books
KeyError: u'epub'
(By the way, the copy to clipboard is broken on that one, I had to type it by hand...)
These worked as expected:
Code:
epub:FOLDER_DEVICE [{authors} - {title}->title]
any format:FOLDER_DEVICE [{authors} - {title}->title]
epub:any device [{authors} - {title}->title]

Ah, I see. I dug up the PNG, it's recognizable in full size.

Concerning my comment on the icon, of course, it's better to give constructive comments rather than destructive ones. In that spirit, here's what I perhaps should have done right off the bat: Attached is my take on the plugboard icon. While it's painfully obvious that I'm no master at drawing either, I tried to make something that, in my personal opinion, fits in with the Calibre icons a little better. Feel free to use it or not. If someone wants to refine it, the SVG is available, too, just ask me.

Here you are. I changed it just a tiny bit, personally, I'm quite happy with it now. SVG is in the ZIP, PNG for preview purposes.

You need a photo of Lily Tomlin in her Classic SNL role. One Ring-e-ding-e...

Released 0.7.906 with various bug fixes:

1) Fix a regression that broke the isbndb metadata download plugin for all the betas. I'm guessing no one has tried metadata downloading with the betas?

2) Fix a regression that caused Search & Replace to only work on the first book in 905

3) Fixed various plugboards issues. Any plugboards you set up in 905 will have to be re-entered in 906 and later.

4) Various creepy-crawlies having to do with the metadata backup thread.

5) Manichean's ode to the 21st century phone operator

And so it goes...
