Just got my Graphite. Pretty fast delivery to the UK! The screen is so much whiter than the previous DX. I'm glad I upgraded. |

Could anyone please post high quality photos comparing the Graphite with the old DX? The ones that are already available aren't very enlightening.

I did a blog article on the international product pages for the DX Graphite and the many changes I saw as of Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. That's at http://bit.ly/kdx2more Sites not able to order the Graphite in the last week included Australia, Spain, and The Netherlands, but they are all right for orders now, except that the initial product page still says only the white one is available. But if you go to the countries-table on the general page, near the top, underneath the header text, and choose your country, that will let you know right away if only the white one is available "currently" as it said earlier on Tuesday. None of those countries have the restriction showing anymore at that point and people have been able to buy the new DX. I also just answered a question, from a person (at Mobileread) who is in Austria/Germany, about the new DX and the capability of the web browser now + availability there. I had done a regularly updated article on the web browser in 65 countries and that is at http://kwkweb But I answered his questions about accessing certain sites he wants with it. His post in German and my response in English are at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...634#post998634 - Andrys |

So if I'm reading something on a computer away from home, can I just email it to myself and continue reading the document on the Kindle, or do I have to go home, physically connect my home computer to the Kindle and transfer the document that way?

I read if you use google documents, you can download books from other stores onto your kindle if you store them there... I don't know about mp3's and stuff...

Thanks for the nice words :-) I have a feeling I got a particularly good older, white DX, so probably won't be buying the newer one but I could always change my mind. I did understand the man from Germany meant 'download' and I think (not looking right now as I have too many tabs up already) I mentioned that you can directly download .mobi, .prc (and of course .azw for Kindle's own DRM'd format) to the Kindle via the web browser. That's how we can direcgtly download from feedbooks.com and mnybks.net ... as well as internet archives those those pages can be hard to load. And I probably didn't mention ".txt"... But not PDF's - they're usually unpredictable as to size so Amazon doesn't allow that over whispernet.

whispernet cost. If you mail a Kindle-compatible document to [you]@kindle.com (after giving your normal e-mail address authorization at Amazon's ManageYourKindle page to send to your Kindle), yes, it goes right on. I mentioned the formats that this will work for. But that costs 15c per megabyte of a file to do in the U.S. for U.S. residents and it costs 99c per megabyte of a file to do outside the U.S. for non-USA residents. Most regular novels are about 800K so cost about 15c to do. If you want it converted first (for example: formatted Word files to Kindle-readable format that recognizes the special Word formatting features), then you'd send it to either [you]@kindle.com (paid) or to [you]@free.kindle.com In the latter free case Amazon does the conversion and then gives you a link to the converted file for download and then USB movement to your computer. Now, as described at http://bit.ly/kno_usb -- you can deposit a Kindle-compatible file (as described earlier and usually converted) at google.docs and then use the Kindle to go there and download it if the extension is .txt, .mobi, .prc, .azw). But if the extension is .pdf then it wouldn't download it. Best is sending the pdf file to [you]@kindle.com if you want it to go direct to your Kindle and are aware of the costs. Large PDF files, I just USB from computer-download over to the Kindle. Now, if you want a PDF converted to .mobi and don't want to do it yourself and want it to arrive on your Kindle, then you send the file to [you]@kindle.com (once you're approved yourself for that) and put into the SUBJ field: "Convert" As everyone knows, complex pdfs own't convert well, but a simple one-column book or doc should be fine. The converted file would arrive at your Kindle, for the 15c per megabyte. Does that answer the question?

Are the PDFs the Kindle DX 2 rotate able so you can see the top and the bottom half of a DIN A4 pdf? Like the scrolling option of the Iliad?

It's not as smooth as a scroll. When you're finished reading that page you press NextPage button to get the text below but it does cover the contents of the entire page. You can also choose "Actual Size" and scroll from left to right and back, and down. - Andrys

Amazon will really need to drop the price of the DX more then just $20 to get them to sell out. It's easily worth the $20 to get the DXG. I figure $250 would do to get rid of all the old DXs they have laying around not selling. |
