Glen Johnson played very well.
Not so much a 'loss' but a revelation of how bad England are playing. In all honesty there was only Gerard on the pitch who showed any skill and determination. Rooney looks confused most of the time. Heskey, despite his assistance in the early goal, isn't good enough. Some of the younger players have the determination, but they're not sure footed enough to play at this level. Crouch should have been on from the start, but wasn't. There's no cohesion in the squad, nothing like the German side who look natural and at home with each other and their game.

I suppose, being English, it's only natural that we come at this with an air of defeat before we've actually been defeated

Amazing performance by Germany. Absolutely beautiful football. I think you're looking at one of the teams that will be in the final.

That's right!

Don't be frustrated yet. Your team will do far better than yesterday. And, as Harry said, a lot of it was due to bad luck. I'm still convinced England is a team all others should be afraid of, that definitely includes Germany. And the Germans have to be careful not to take it all too easy now.

I'm quite surprised too. And I think it's almost a good thing Ballack isn't playing.

As is rightly said in the article, they entirely drown out the singing which is so much a part of the atmosphere of the game. Dreadful things!
Drowning the singing is not the only casualty. Vuvuzelas also drown out most whistles from the referee and also most of the ball kick sounds essential to the line referees' offside calls.

Harry, I'm a Yank and a lifelong football (yes, soccer) fan. I was at the last WC at all the US games, and I can tell you we sing too many old and nuanced songs to list here. I'm not knocking your take here, because we do also chant U-S-A sometimes and you will hear it. No offense, just want to break some of the old stereotypes here. We also have decent beer and coffee where I'm from by the way.

Enjoy the cup, all,

An Americanized football match is a pain to attend. They have the same vuvuzela horns that blow all the time, then there's the insufferable DJ who talks about an idiotic contest over the match for an idiot car maker. The sound system is way too loud playing stupid hockey organ music or part of "we are the champions"...

I hate having to go in the stadium to encourage my home team with that kind of atmosphere. That might explain the low attendance throughout North America.
Believe me I like the Montréal Impact but not going to see them live. Rather watch them on the telly. That exposition game with AC Milan was really nice.

Yes, that's soccer. Weird, huh? Congrats again to the US!

Thanks, Steve. But let's just see if the Germans can keep up yesterday's performance. The game against Serbia next Friday will show if the team is really in good shape. BTW, your German is excellent.

Yes, amazing. They actually did show that they can play nice combinations. Lets hope they don't think too much of themselves now and keep striving for more.

An excellent performance by Germany. Of interest to all England fans, since, if both England and Germany get through the group stage, they will face each other in the next round of the competition.

England better watches its step. That unexpected draw can hamper their options greatly.
