Fixing this is going to take some thought. My problem is that I don't know under what circumstances a book can end up in 'downloads', and what the 'meaning' of being in that folder is. My guess is that the books are there because they were downloaded over the 3G network. Does that make sense to you? Is there anything special about a book being there, such as being deleted after a time?

It might be that we can change calibre to see books in 'downloads', but to put books only into 'books'. I don't know if we can permit editing, because I don't know what the side effects are. My main goal is to not break anything for devices that don't have 3G. As I said, thought required.

Thanks for the information.
My 900 has a media/downloads directory too, but nothing in it. the books should be in media/books directory as far as I know.

Can I move the books not showing up to the correct folder using a copy/move function? And yes that particular book and a couple of others were bought from the sony store via 3G. I haven't recently bought any that way, I'm looking for different sources of books but the early stuff was on 3G, cuz I didn't know any better (lol)

Yes. If you move them anywhere into the books folder, calibre will find them.

One possible minor problem could arise if you later send the same book to the device from calibre. The books will probably not be in the folders that calibre will put them in, and you will end up with two copies on the device. To help manage these extra copies, I just 'improved' the 'Remove matching books from device' function (plug in the device, then on the library, select some books, right-click, hover over Remove Books, then select Remove matching ...). It now shows both the format and the path of the books that match, so you can select the books that are not in the 'right' place. This improvement will be in the next release.

thanks for the help. I copied books to correct folder and they showed up. Still not in calibre library but I could edit them and put them in collections.

Another question,
is there an undo feature when editing data in calibre?

Since I upgraded to 0.7.7 calibre crashes if I try to add more than 4 or 5 books at a time.

I agree with Demonthus, Calibre should be a collection manager AND converter, not a messy one... I won't repeat what that user said about collections, one thing that I'm very angry is that Calibre duplicate the files when you import them. I have my collection on my notebook and I'm planning just convert my old PDF files to ePub, to save space and to be easy to read, anyway...when I'm importing files, Calibre copy to the library folder and duplicate those files without need. Why not just access the files in the original folders?? Organization don't mean duplication. It imports the files, duplicates those ones and add the new format in the folder, in the end i'll have 3 files (2 pdf, 1 ePub). Any solution for this??

Another request, please add a new feature to delete files from calibre collection, not from the computer itself. When I add files to the collection just for convert, I get the new files back to my own collection folder, and after that, i just want to clean the list of ebooks, not delete them.

Sigh...

"very angry"?

Calibre is software. It costs you nothing. No one forces you to use it. It isn't a threat to world peace, it doesn't cause famines in Africa, and it doesn't tell your mother where you were last night.

The program works the way it does. If you don't like it, do something about it. Get a different program. Or get calibre's source and change it to do what you want. Or learn about its command line features. Or any number of other possibilities.

I hope you solve your problem.

A quick question: does the latest Calibre support the new Kindle DX Graphite?

Cheers,

there is a profile in Calibre for the DX.

If the graphite is the same spec, then a quick answer would be yes (subject to a more expert opinion).

It's a newer device (higher contrast screen for example) so it may not be the same at the driver level I guess?
