I had a pre order kobo and the first few charges I got <1000 page turns each time (probably 700-800). So I emailed Kobo about it and they mentioned I could exchange it at an Indigo if it was within 14 days of purchase and they had some in stock or they could send me a box that I could send it back with. Being a good deal past the 14 days and with my local indigo showing 0 in stock I asked for a box. I was at the indigo yesterday and asked about the return policy out of curiosity and turns out there is no 14 day limit for exchanging defective units and they had 12 in stock so I went back today to exchange. Weird that Kobo costumer service said otherwise! It is sweet though that I don;t have to send it in and wait for them to ship one back. Ill let you guys know how my new units battery is

I experienced the same thing today. The Kobo CSR I've been emailing said that if it was after 14 days, then it had to be shipped to Kobo. But then I phoned my local Coles and the manager said Indigo and Kobo have an agreement that allows exchanges in store for up to a year, because the reader is still basically in beta. So I went to Coles, returned it, and they've ordered a new one for me. I wonder why the Kobo CSR don't know this...

I have a Sony PRS-505. I think its battery is rated for 7000 page turns on a charge. I've never actually counted the page turns because I've never had reason to. I just read and don't think about the battery. I've never had the sort of battery problems with my Sony that I'm reading in this thread with the Kobo. I've had my Sony for a few years now, and the battery is still fine. I never had to "train" my Sony's battery indicator either.

Word on the Battery Life of Kobo

I read on a Kobo review on Chapters that the red light comes on when you plug it in...if it doesn't immediately on plugin...don't worry...it will eventually...you may not see it especially if you are charging overnight. Now apparently you shouldn't unplug the kobo until the red light goes off. I plugged in my Kobo about 2 hours ago and did not see the red light until about 15 or 20 minutes into the charge. It's now into the 2 hour mark and the red light is still on. I'm thinking that is a good thing. I won't unplug it until that red light goes out. And if it's still on before I go to bed...then hopefully it will be fully charged. I have been reading on my Kobo alot since monday and my husband says I'm addicted to it! Probably...now I can cook with both hands and still read (was kinda hard to turn pages with a regular book and still cook at the stove)....

Doesn't the red light come on when the unit is fully charged. When my partners black one arrived it was 50% charged, and after about 40 mins the red light came on (and it says its charged). My White one, was also 50% charged (according to the battery meter) and I put it on to charge for around 2 hours and the red light didn't come on, but the battery meter claims it was fully charged. I put it back on for a bit more (incase it was close) but I havent seen the red light on.

Also with respect to battery life, does anyone really expect to get what is stated by the companies, I know my laptop, phone and other items (Nintendo DS) that have quoted battery life rarely achieve these runs in the real world.

Doesn't really matter to me, I'm used to charging things regularly (phones, bluetooth connectors, GPS units...........)

yeah that was my understanding too. But now in a couple of threads I've heard people say that you are meant to wait for it to go off again.

So which is it?

Does the red light going on indicate fully charged, or is it only fully charged after going on and then off again?

Mine isn't charging anymore. I got 86 and 40 pages out of the 2 last charges and the red light has stopped working. The meter is full after a nigh but drops to half after 2 days with or without reading. I will try to get another one this week...

Has anyone gone through Kobo to exchange their readers if they're outside of the 14 day window?

Kobo replied to one of my issues today regarding the battery and they said they're pretty sure I've got a defective one and want me to exchange it.

If anyone here has done this, a couple of questions. Do they send you a brand new unit or is it a refurbished one? And how long does it take?

Yes, I read that...and before I posted I called a few Chapters stores here and all of them told me I had to go through Kobo, that since I'm outside of the 14 day window I can't exchange it with them.

I re-read your message after my reply and clued into the fact that you were specifically asking about that. At which point I promptly nuked my message. Sry Stealthy

Did you buy it in store or online through chapters.indigo.ca? 'Cause the exchange/return policy for online purchase is 30 days. And you can send it back to any Chapters or Coles store. That's what I did myself, I got a refund from a Coles store that was even not selling the device and I bought another one from Walmart for they had it in stock.

Yes, I pre-ordered it from Chapters back when they announced the black one would be available...I got it on May 10. That means I'm at 25 days...just no stores here seem to have any available.

I suppose I could do what you did and see if Walmart has any, but my fear then is ending up with another faulty device (which I would just exchange, but want to avoid the headache). I'm really hopeful that getting one directly from Kobo will mean it'll be free from defects since they know why I'm exchanging it in the first place. (Again, I'm "hopeful" lol)...I'm not sure what to do.

So far for me, I cross my fingers, it seems to work fine... In fact, I bought two kobos online. One white that I gave to my brother and the black one that I had problems with. At Walmart, they only have the white one that I bought the same and I'm happy with it for now...
