/personal opinion ON With a few exceptions of blindingly obviously dangerous information ("Make Your Own Sarin in 5 Easy Steps"), reading of any and all kinds is a good thing. Even reading the dangerous info can be a good thing, it's just not ALWAYS good. Hey rebellious kid, want to read an outlaw comic with drawings of nekkid people doing outrageous things? Here you go. You there, the tweedy guy, how about a copy of Moby Dick? Go fantasize. Yo, nerd! Here have a copy of 'Neuromancer'. It'll turn your brain the color of a mistuned TV picture. /personal opinion OFF YMMV Regards, Jack Tingle |

It's great when great books get people to read. But it's really just as good when popular books get people to read... at the very least, it keeps their literacy active, and they can always move on to read something else.

Usually, though, the subtext of one genre can be found, to some extent or another, in other genres... for instance, if "vampire romance" went away tomorrow, the "dangerous man" romances and traditional horror genres could fill that void for most, I think. And as people jump genres, they expand their range even further.

Okay, okay, I'm officially retracting my remark! It wasn't that funny anyway. All right, move along, folks! Nothing to see here! Move along! |
