Time to get these tickets for the International Space Station! Too bad the end of the world is coming before George Martin released it's next Song of Ice and Fire book (although it was obvious it would be that way). |

In the Icebox, which has, by definition, an extended flu season, (known as farking winter and farking spring) we have 106 "probable" (as in it is probable that the doctor is a moron) and 3 confirmed cases. I'm going to cancun, where it's safe!
Of note, about 70% of vacationers have cancelled their plans for the rest of the month. Finally! I can get into Senor Frog's without a line! |

The "underlying conditions" to the 2 deaths from Swine Flu in Texas were just released this morning. The woman in question had Asthma and Rheumatoid Arthritis and was 33 weeks pregnant. They delivered her baby by C-section just before she died. The little boy who died had a heart condition and a cronic muscle weakness condition. Quote:
I agree. I'm not heartless about the loss of these 2 lives, but it's also sad that at the same time, in this country alone, many more people have died of measles, chicken pox, or "hospital infections" to name but a few "communicable" conditions that are out there every day. The only reason everyone's freaking out about this Swine Flu is the lack of "experience" there is with it. Here in North Texas hundreds of schools were closed last weeek (many entire school districts) becasue there was one single confirmed case and a few "possible" cases. Hundreds of thousands of school kids were out of school, many hanging out at the malls and such instead. Parents were scrambling to find care for their young children so they could continue to work, fearing for their jobs (in this economy) if they didn't show up. Day Care facilities were closed also. They don't do that sort of thing when the normal yearly flu season brings widespread absences (with hospitalizations) throughout the schools and workplaces with reports of many people dying. The panic and fear are from the "unknown" I'm sure, and not the disease itself. The CDC decided Tuesday that this Swine Flu wasn't that severe or rampant and there was no reason to have the schools closed any longer. So now the schools are opening up again and at the same time more cases of this flu are being reported than before. Confirmed cases are on the rise - "freak out" cases are on the decline. Go figure. |
