No need for a calibre conversion to merge all of the CSS files. You can easily do it in the editor and then link all of the CSS to all of the HTML.

Why do it manually if Calibre will do it for me during the kepub conversion?

Calibre conversion is a regular part of my workflow anyway. I usually do it after I've edited the css, but with those epubs I guess I'll do it before.

IMHO, it's easier (in most cases) to download the KF8, use KindleUnpack to convert to ePub, and fix up form there.

KindleUnpack doesn't do the things conversion does for me - bulk remove widows/orphans, line-height and hyphenation, and merge css files if there are more than one. I do an epub to epub conversion with books bought from Kobo as well.

After doing a remove of unused classes, I remove any windows/orphans that are more then 1. line-height I dump with a S/R. Code to stop hyphenation I remove. I do merge the CSS if I've not dumped the HTML file(s) it goes with.

But the thing I want is I want the code to be as original code as possible.

Yes, but it's tedious and time-consuming to do all this manually when conversion does it automatically.

But the thing I want is I want the code to be as original code as possible.

For me that's not particularly important. I mean, I change it anyway and I actually like what conversion does to the code.

The files go through so many hands and conversions, is there even such a thing as original code?
- Author writes book, maybe in Word, Sigil, whatever. I doubt many actually write css classes.
- Copy editor makes corrections / suggested changes.
- Publisher adds all of their crap like copyright stuff, ads for upcoming books.
- Maybe stuff changes at the vendor side like conversion to KFX, Kepub etc.

What is the original code? Is the code from the ebook you bought from the authors website more original than the one from amazon, kobo, kickstarter, HumbleBundle?

Seeing the download option on one book on the first page of my content. A couple which I know are DRM-free when downloaded to my Kindle Touch have not had the switch flipped by their publisher. Annoying that they have taken away the one previous indicator that something was DRM-free. I think it may be up to publishers to make it known when that option is available.

If the eBook was made as ePub, I'd call that the original code. None of the eBooks from Amazon are original code unless it's a Mobi made from Kindle Create. KF8 and KFX are conversions.

I checked all of my amazon books and there were quite a few that I could already download. The most were from Tor.

What I'm really disappointed about is that not a single manga or comic can be downloaded. Not even the Image comics, which are available without DRM from their homepage for years now.

Yes, they looked okay on my Kobo ereaders. The issue is mostly with those of us who like editing their ebooks for a consistent look and so are seeing the internals of the ePub which is not a pleasant sight.
