There is a new option to change how KePub works. You can select it to set for better justification.

Go to Preferences > Output options > KEPUB output and select Prefer improved justification to proper highlighting. You do need to use calibre 8.4 for this.

Another thing to do is change the KePub hyphenation settings. In the KoboTouch driver configuration, select the Hyphenation tab. Set...
Minimum word length to 4.
Minimum characters before hyphens to 2
Minimum characters after hyphens to 2
Maximum consecutive hyphenated lines to 5.

This may give you more hyphenated lines for less space.

There are two options that may help. One is to apply the patch to reduce the space between words in KePub. I don't know if that will work in the current color firmware. The other option is to install the font ChareInk6SP. That has a reduced size space so that again will help to reduce the gap sizes. Here is where you can download ChareInk6SP. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=184056

Is there any way to force the validation when a device is connected or a transfer is attempted? The current PR just seems to do validation when the customisation dialog is displayed.

Not that I see. Connections and transfers happen on a non-gui thread, making dialogs with the user very difficult. In addition, all the validation code is in the configuration classes.

Validation during data entry seems to cover most cases. What's missing is deletion of columns and manual editing of json files.

Checked the PR when running from source and for my testing on column names, gave me an error message when I entered incorrect names in the KoboTouch driver configuration. Nothing to do if the name is useful but that's left up to the user.

I wonder if selecting the columns from a checklist may be more useful.

That's a shame as unless a user goes to look at his configuration he won't see an error

Thanks though; please don't take this as a reason not to make changes like this.

Depends on how many columns you have to choose from. When you end up like one acquaintance who has ~200 columns to choose from, the checklist gets a bit long. Admittedly, I've been trying to get them to consolidate and remove columns to reduce complaints about slow operations but that has not gotten very far. "But I NEED a column that shows the days between the publication date and the date I added the book to calibre" or "I NEED a column that shows the number of alternative covers" or a column for the ISBN's for the various other editions of the book (hardcover, trade paperback, paperback, ebook) for instance.
