I have updated the tutorial_add_cover.html file and attached the new contents in a zip file. I added some clarifying text plus some general examples of image resolutions expected for cover pages. I did not change any of the images, so the only file to import is the tutorial_add_cover.html file.

I have had a look at the following chapters - tutorial_load_file.html and tutorial_save.

Both chapters only needed minor text changes - all the images are the latest version - so I have just attached the edited html files.

Okay, in the first post I have uploaded the latest version of the user guide:

src_updated_20210228_01.epub

It has all of the above changes to it (Banjo's reworked tutorial_add_cover.html and Ashjuk's reworked tutorial_load_file.html and tutorial_save.html) plus some spelling fixes for the checkpoints chapter, some additional faq updates, and the table of contents chapter now explains that an ncx is not longer added automatically to epub3's so if they want to be backwards compatible with older epub2s they will need to generate one using the Epub3 Tools menu.

Thank you to all who have contributed so far!

According to the code, it allows an Extended Selection model where multiple selections are made as follows:

Quote taken from the Qt website docs directly for Extended Selection. Remember the Qt Ctrl key is the Apple Key on macOS.

Quote:
When the user selects an item in the usual way, the selection is cleared and the new item selected. However, if the user presses the Ctrl key when clicking on an item, the clicked item gets toggled and all other items are left untouched. If the user presses the Shift key while clicking on an item, all items between the current item and the clicked item are selected or unselected, depending on the state of the clicked item. Multiple items can be selected by dragging the mouse over them.
I will test this when I get back to my Desktop machine.

It does the same thing on my system. I open the Clip editor, select multiple clips and push the Paste button. Only the first selected clip goes into the file.

I am running Sigil 1.5.0 on a Linux system.

Hmm, that is very strange. The code definitely supports pasting multiple entries so there must be a bug someplace.

To be honest, I don't think this is a bug worth chasing. I think pasting multiple entries at one time is not a common use, plus it only works when pasting using the Clip Editor, whereas I think most users will paste their clips using the Clip Bar, context menu or Clip window, so it's kind of moot.

Another thing I noticed while testing 1.5.0 against the old User Manual, is that you can use the Clip Bars and Clip Editor to paste clips into the Find and Replace fields in the Find & Replace box. However, it doesn't work when pasting clips from the Clips window. When using the Clips window, you can only paste into an HTML file, not the Find or Replace fields. Not sure if this is expected behavior or worth chasing. But thought I'd mention it.

I have found and fixed that bug in CodeViewEditor.cpp that only pasted the first of the multiple clips.

So the user-guide is now correct when it comes to the ClipsEditor and multiple selections. That fix is now in master and it will appear in the upcoming beta 1.5.0 release.

The Clips toolbar and window works differently by immediately pasting in exactly what you select and that is as expected so no multiple selection. Only the Clip Editor has this feature.

Yes targeting the Find and Replace field is a bit different. You can target the Find and Replace from external Dialogs like the ClipsEditor or the Toolbar/ClipsBar but you can not easily do that for the ClipsWindow which is a DockWidget as it shares focus with the main window so clicking it it takes the focus away from the F&R (another DcokWidget) but it still is considered the MainWindow as focus.

So the ClipsWindow must operate in a different way from the ClipsEditor because it is a DockWidget.

So please leave the user-guide info as it for this part, as although it does not work for you now, it will work for the real Beta 1.5.0 and final 1.5.0 versions!

Thanks for the head's up.

Hi All,

One more plea for help. I simply am not up on the best way to get a Word or LibreOffice/OpenOffice file into Sigil using plugins.

The "tutorial_convert_to_html.html" chapter in the user-guide is still promoting the filtered-html approach with no mention of using any of the plugins.

Would someone who is proficient with directly converting docx odf files via the plugins we have, please add a brief discussion of using them to get material into Sigil to what is already there. I do not want to remove the filtered html discussion, just augment it with plugin based approaches. Perhaps this is where the use of styles when writing using Word/LibreOffice/OpenOffice could/should be pointed out?

So would someone who has some experiance doing that or maybe one of the authors of the plugins that help support that please take a shot at that one chapter for me.

Or give me permission to steal from your plugin documentation, so that we can at least point people to additional ways to handle this.

Thanks!

Kevin

I have updated the user-guide again with the latest version being:

src_updated_20210301_01.epub

This has all additions and changes given in the threads above plus I have edited and made minor corrections for a number of the outstanding tutorials.

Still more work is needed to complete the editing of the tutorials.

I will also update this version to the user-guide repo.

The following tutorial chapters still need to be updated, so if you can help with any one of these, please let me know.

tutorial_convert_to_html.html
