IMO a mistake when he was persuaded to go back to SF writing to write more Foundation books and combine them with the "Robot" books. Caves of Steel is a classic full length SF detective story originally nothing to do with the Foundation Trilogy.
Yes, I agree. Asimov's after the fact melding of his disparate works into a single universe was a waste of time and talent.

If you know anything about programming you'd realize that they're totally bogus, but back when those books were written very few people knew about programming.

The reason I say they're bogus is because they were supposed to protect humans from robots running amok. But no software of any moderate or greater complexity is perfect and thus contains bugs so the code for those supposed "three laws" could have had bugs in them rendering them ineffective.

I had always imagined the "positronic" brains of the robots being similar to human ones. I didn't think that they were programmed in the way we program our CPU-based computers.

I prefer Harlan Ellison's "Repent, Harlequin!' Said the Ticktockman" though I admit a liking for "A Boy and His Dog".

Did Heinlein do a short with that title, or did you mix up with Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream?

FWIW, both nosy and nosey are correct American English spellings and have the same meaning. See, for example, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 11th ed; I believe both are also correct in British English. No need to have deleted either from your spellchecker.

In line with the title of this thread, it was a typo.

Yes, sorry, Ellison. I read it at least 40 years ago back in my late teens or early 20s.

I only noticed because I happened to flick past it on Kobo just a day or two ago - not sure how/why, since horror isn't really my thing - and the title stuck in my head, not only because the title itself works as horror, but also because the choice of conjunction struck me as ... not obvious. If I had written that sentence I think I would have chosen "but" (as you did), but I was wondering if the "and" was actually more horrific. Anyway, those are the sorts of knots I was tying myself in and why I found the title memorable.

(Goodness, now I read back over that it sounds a bit obsessive or something. Hmm... and now I'm talking to myself. )

In the US it is Jewelry. In the UK is is Jewelery. I tend to use both and some people just love to point out that the second spelling is incorrect.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is not horror. It is a post-apocalypse sci-fi story. A very dark one, to be sure. But it is not a horror story.
