You will need to go into Tools/Options and uncheck 'Automatically install updates when they are available without asking me.'

I just did . I am crossing my fingers LOL. I hope it works. If so I need to figure out how to remove DRM from nook books. I also downloaded Nook for PC and cannot convert shit because of the freaking annoying DVM

Alf will remove DRM from Amazon and Nook books. I do.

I have a feeling I'd get shut down if I went into too much detail here. Try going to the Alf blog.

Thank you for that. I hadn't actually timed Calibre. I just estimated it. I tried the debug -g as you suggested and it said it started in 2.58 seconds. So I guess my estimate was wrong.

I forget what SSD I have but I do remember when i bought it a little less than a year ago the reviews said it was a very fast one. I just looked and I can't easily find any information on it's type or brand.

I've been reading and accumulating ebooks since before they were called ebooks and storing them in folders by author all that time so I'm used to this method. I was using a laptop with a hard drive when I started Calibre so at that time I'm sure the difference was a lot greater than it is now. I guess I just hadn't caught up mentally with the faster computer I have now. So maybe using Calibre will be about as fast. Not much faster.

Well, the bright side is I made it to 77 years old before I made my first mistake.

Feel free to use whatever method you like to store your books. I dont expect calibre to work for everyone. IMO it is the best method to organize an e-book collection of any significant size, but other people can well have different opinions/needs. That is why I have tried to make calibre as modular as possible, with separate executables to run only the viewer, the conversion engine, the editor, etc. So use the parts that make sense for your workflow.

I sure wasn't lambasting Calibre. I use it for conversions and I find it invaluable. I've recommended it to everyone I know who reads ebooks and has a computer. They all agree with me. It's a great program and I thank you for it.

It's just that I solved my library problem long before Calibre, or at least before I knew about it, and even long before ebooks were called ebooks.
