I am not sure. I have problems with both. Distance is blurry and I cannot read small print without glasses ( like back of bottles and such) but I can read on my devices fine without glasses. I use reading glasses for real up close such as working on my computer,

I need glasses to read fine print, but I was diagnosed as near sighted. Bifocals since age 21.

Oh you are like my grandmother. Except she was near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other.

Ya my one eye is worse than the other. Also my one eye is a slightly different shape than the other. I do not notice it unless I look at a photo

I think we all have the one eye worse than the other. I was stuck without glasses for about a year one time. It took a good ten minutes or it seemed that long to get the left (lazy) eye to even barely see the eye chart. It took a long time to get it back to working full time. I have changed glasses since then but they are always on my face. Now I did take them off when I was using a device on a 75 inch screen and I was a foot away from it.

You might consider the original Kobo Aura. they're also about $50 on Ebay but they do have a light and they have a switch that turns the light off so if you don't like it you can live without it. It has a pretty good screen; not as good as some of the others but I read with mine all the time even though I have devices with better screens. The difference really is small enough not to matter while reading, only while comparing.

But since it does have a front light that means if you decide not to keep it you'll probably find it easy to get your money back selling it.

The Aura's firmware is slightly more advanced than the Mini although not much. It's a pretty nice device with a flush bezel, very small and light with a 6" screen. It's not a whole lot bigger than the Mini.

Nearsighted here, no trouble with lighted screens of any type. I prefer to read on a phone without wearing my glasses.

Yeah, that's me. Slight astigmatism in my left eye, right handed.

I refuse to wear bifocals, I wear mono vision glasses, right eye corrected for distance, left corrected for intermediate.

Extremely nearsighted (been wearing glasses since elementary school). I can read even very tiny text without glasses when I put it very close to my nose, any farther and I'm unable to read unless the text is really huge. So I wear glasses always, in every situation, including reading and computer work. Not bifocals, they're single vision lenses.

I have some light issues, e.g. I cannot use lighted screens in total darkness. I also don't like to read books on tablets, phones or PC, but I'm not sure if that's a light issue or something else. I don't have any problems with binge-watching movies on my tablet (though never in a dark room), so possibly the reading issue is something else. All I know is I vastly prefer e-ink for longer reading sessions.

Sounds a bit like me. Astigmatism in both eyes. I graduated to bifocals just a few yrs ago, but have worn glasses since I was 5.

Quick research has shown nearly all of us that need glasses have needed them since childhood.
It is also rather amazing than many that wear glasses have been voracious readers since we were toddlers/preschoolers.
Not sure if there is a correlation or not.
It also appears near sighted people tend to run over small things like walls more than everyone else.

I am nearsighted and yes, I do bump into things.... And yes, I did read a lot as a child, though I didn't get glasses until I was a teenager.

I take my glasses off to read. Much clearer than what I can see through the reading portion of my glasses, and also a much wider field of vision. I learned the hard way that I can't use my phone for extended reading sessions. Tried that and the next day my vision was fuzzy and I was seeing halos around lights. Fortunately my eyes did eventually get back to normal. After that I decided that the phone is ok for short periods of time, but if I am going to spend a few hours on the weekend reading I stick to my eink reader - it's never caused any problems.

I'll back up Barry's Aura recommendation. The 6" Kobo Aura is a very nice device. Very small in comparison with the Glowlight 3 and with a flush screen. The screen isn't as nice as the Glowlight 3, but it still looks good to me.

I bought mine off of eBay from the same seller Barry used and I have no complaints.

I was 20/20 until I was 46 and had to have glasses to read. My mother has macular degeneration and regular eye exams have come back negative for me.
