Same here. Got mine today. Great ereader but mine has issues with lighting too, so will try to exchange, hopefully shuffling the deck will result in a less-defective unit.

I'm starting to wonder if all the shadows and rainbow colors in the lighting isn't an actual issue and is normal? Does anyone have a KA1 with perfect (or near perfect) lighting?

Someone mentioned they have a perfect screen, but that's often a subjective thing. It usually means "perfect for me".

Hmmm... I think the battery issues might be related to the active light sensors to automatically adjust the reader lights. Which makes sense because they have to be on 24/7 to do what they do. Needs more experimentation, I mean reading to investigate.

My KA1 has a big green area when natural lighting is turned on, with any brightness level. Its pretty obvious when you turn the reader on. The problem is that once you see it you can't unsee it, and then reading becomes a very distracted experience.

Another reason might be that folks are less likely to be willing to live with something they perceive as a "defect" for a product that is priced at a premium and marketed as TOTL.

I think in part it depends how much you use the Natural light feature. My lighting is perfect with Natural light at zero and then gets funky if I turn it above one or two notches.

And that's why I'm waiting for my replacement. I can't Un-see it!

Yes, me to! I have a shady triangle in the lower right corner. I keep tilting my KA1 thinking there is a shadow blocking my light.

I can't live with it.

I haven't found the process frustrating at all. I spent some time on the phone while they made me to a factory reset, but they've been prompt about moving me through the steps this afternoon. Just waiting to hear if I get the replacement for sure. And in the mean time, I have this one to use.

I'm gonna say I have one of the "perfect" screens
no shadows
no weird colors
I read under the same lighting conditions each time which might be why I haven't seen anything amiss

Now on the Aura HD I noticed immediately a single "bright" pixel or element the first time I turned on the light - very annoying at first but learned to ignore it (for the most part) - definitely should have had it replaced but dealing with Kobo customer service.....
