Is it bricked?
I'm not sure but I think my Glo HD sd card died. It's stuck on a black screen that says "restarting" with some white squares. It's been acting up lately. Freezing, restarting, & draining battery quickly. I did a factory reset recently but the problems came back. It is charged up but will not reset anymore. Does this mean the sd card is shot? If so, is it possible to just replace it with any micro sd or does it have to be from Kobo?

Is there another way to try to reset besides the pin hole?

Firstly, the pin-hole is only useful if the device is actually running. It forcibly restarts the device without saving anything. It's really only useful if you think the device has hung. It isn't involved in the factory reset process.

For the rest, that does sound like an SD card problem. Or at least, it is very similar to how my Glo and was fixed by replacing the internal SD card. You can replace this with another card, including larger cards, but you need to put the Kobo software on it. This needs to be done by either taking an image of your current SD card and restoring it, or getting an image from elsewhere and restoring it.

In any case I bought a new sd card. I don't think I would trust the old one even if I could get it to work. I will give this a shot! Thanks so much for the help! This is a great site. I'm glad I ran across it.

Here's hoping Kobo comes out with a new 6" reader soon.

Hi great MobileRead community,
I'm new here. I'm a musicologist from Italy and I worked for a few years as a cataloguer-librarian. I love books very much.
I use a Kobo Glo to read my books. Now is frozen. It remains switch off with the image of the cover book of the last book I was reading.
I tried changing the battery... but nothing.
I tried to do the factory reset: a white led had been flashing for a while like the factory reset should do, but on the screen ...nothing.
Any suggestions?

As the screen isn't changing, are there any defects on the screen? One reason for non-changing screen is a damaged screen. There are plenty of photos of damaged screens you can compare them to or, post one for us to look at.

Otherwise, it might be solved by resolved by restoring an image to the internal SD card. I have sent you a PM with a link to the image to try.

Thanks Davidfor for your fast reply.

Actually there's a thin sign on the screen, it's not easy too see it. It's like a thin line less than one inch long. it's like a glossy shadow inside the screen. The external film or glass is not broken, it's a internal sign.
mmm....I think it's the end of my Glo. I'll try with SD image you send me, thanks for it. Otherwise I'll buy a new one.

I really need the Glo HD SD image if possible please. I upgraded my SD ages ago using the magic memory mod to 64GB, but my I think that card's on its way out (and i want to change the card anyway.
