ADE authorization is indeed the issue. Since we can sideload books on to the Nook without Calibre support (though I love Calibre especially with my Kobo, many thanks to Kovid for his work on it), or ADE.

I hope it's a fix that doesn't require one to install and use ADE 4.x. I remember something about the later versions of ADE having a more hardened DRM scheme. Hopefully, the update can be done on the B&N side.

Hmm, compared NGP with a Kindle Voyage and the Voyage feels faster to operate.
And they both have a 1Ghz procesor and 512Mb RAM ...

I installed your beta on my MacBook Pro. It works fine with my Glowlight Plus.

Rupor, who hacked the Sony T-2, appears to be actively looking at rooting the new Nook in conjunction with Renate. Good to see that the community is still alive and vital and swirling around the new Nook. These guys are legends. They have huge knowledege.

I doubt it, my Windows box was using ADE 4.5 since I just downloaded whatever version was on Adobes site to test with the NGLP. And that didn't see the Nook either. I couldn't be sure, but the guy I spoke to seemed to want to imply the issue was on Adobe to fix, which is laughable since ADE didn't change things.

New here...found this while trying to figure out how to get library books on the new nook GLP.

I just tweeted nook customer care about ADE not recognizing nook. They said they are aware of the problem and are working on a software update. I asked about a timeframe but they said they didn't know but their tech department is currently working on having an update soon.

So it sounds like they recognize this is their problem and not ADE.

I'm just really annoyed and dumbfounded that they could release this without having an easy way to download library books. I have had a nook since the beginning but am constantly regretting it. I literally just bought a kindle PW when the new nook came out. I figured I'd give it a shot to see which I like better. But this is really making me want to finally jump ship!

Yes, I saw that. Great news. I don't have the skills or the equipment to do the root console connection that they have done to start the hacking process, but they will probably find a way to root the device without opening it up. An eInk device running KitKat and with a 300 dpi resolution has some potential, especially once it's rooted.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The Nook for Windows 8 app does not work with Windows 10. The books and magazines are partially off the screen. BN assured me that they are aware of the problem and are working on a solution. Windows 10 came out in July. No update yet. I think I am finished with Nook.

Sigh! this is just such a huge screwup! I was so ready to be done with them but the new one lured me in. I'd really like to be able to have access to all my previously purchased B&N books as well as library books. I'm wondering which I want more right now. But I think this might finally be it for me and I will switch over to kindle.

Consider Kobo. If you can use Nook Study on your computer, you can get all your Nook books downloaded. We can't give you details here, but if you google alf and drm you'll find how to remove DRM and then you'd be able to load those Nook books to your Kobo.

I think you could do it without stripping the DRM, you would have to use ADE to transfer the books to your Kobo. Not entirely sure on this, but Nooks DRM is tied to Adobe's Adept DRM so it should work.

I suggest Kobo because you wouldn't need to worry about converting the epubs to anything else. Where as with Kindle you would need to have them as mobi or az3.

Nook switched their DRM keys

they are no longer based on the famous social DRM so ADE doesn't know how to transfer Nook books anymore.

You will need to use Alf's tools...

They switched keys, but I'm pretty sure they stayed with Adobe Adept. They just no longer use your credit card as verification to decrypt the DRM.
