As with most material on the Internet Archive, this book is available in several formats. The ones that this book is available in, that Mobilereaders are most likely to be interested in knowing about, are the following--pdf, ePub, and mobi (Kindle).

This knowledge comes a little too late for me, as I already bought it in both ePub and mobi formats. Sometimes it pays to wait . . . .
Thanks for pointing out the formats available. I mis-read their chart, and thought that only the ones with a listed size were available .... I was going to struggle to read the flat text format, when in fact there IS a mobi version available!

I'm not sure that all of the books in the "Community Texts" at the Internet Archive are authorized. The page says that it was uploaded in 2010, so Zondervan's had five years to do something about it if it's not authorized, but I've never seen the ebook available for free anywhere else.

The books that are legal usually include a mention of the copyright status and who authorized the book's availability. This book, for example, specifically mentions that the author authorized the upload and I believe it because the uploader is Duke University, where the author is a professor.

I don't know about if it's a legal upload to the Internet Archive or not but I did notice a discrepancy over at Amazon. A copy of Mr. Strobel's book in Spanish is .99 for the Kindle, but the same book in English is $5.11 a difference of $4.12 before any tax. Same publisher, same format, even same cover image but one is $4.12 cheaper than the other one. That makes no sense at all. I wrote customer service about it. I wonder what kind of response I will get.

It's almost certainly intentional and is known in broad terms as market segmentation. If English-readers are willing to spend more than Spanish-readers, then they maximize their overall return by pricing the English edition higher than the Spanish edition.

Sounds discriminatory to me. If one person can get something cheaper because they read one lnguage while others don't. the price should be the same for both (IMO).

Indeed, that market segmentation strategy is called "price discrimination". Savvy shoppers often make it work for them, by buying lower-priced versions of products targeted at market segments other than their own.

I did hear back from Amazon. Basically they laid it at the publisher's feet. Sort of passing the buck you might say. i.e. we don't make the rules about what books cost the publisher's do it. But they do allow such differences to occur so their hands aren't completely clean I don't think.

Hatchette Publishing Company, among others, might disagree and demur.

Jim Bishop's The Day Christ Died. A Classic. Greatly Marked Down Right Now.

A lot of marked-down books about Jesus Christ have been passing in front of my eyes the last few days. No doubt in honor or celebration of Easter.

This book has been around a long time. It's a good one. It's a real classic.

If you have the Kindle ebook, you can get the narration (audio) for only $3.49. The regular price is well over $14.95, so it would count toward the four needed to get the $10 credit from Amazon during the current promotion.

The Day Christ Died. By Jim Bishop. Rated 4 1/2 stars, from 86 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $13.99; digital list(?) price $9.25; Kindle price now $1.99. HarperCollins e-books, publisher. 288 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Day-Christ-Die...ay+Christ+Died.

Book Description
"This is a book about the most dramatic day in the history of the world, the day on which Jesus of Nazareth died. It opens at 6 P.M.—the beginning of the Hebrew day—with Jesus and ten of the apostles coming through the pass between the Mount of Olives and the Mount of Offense en route to Jerusalem and the Last Supper. It closes at 4 P.M. the following afternoon, when Jesus was taken down from the cross. . . . The fundamental research was done a long time ago by four fine journalists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The rest has been added in bits and pieces from many men whose names span the centuries."—from the Foreword

There's a pretty impressive stack of study Bibles on sale. Most of these have been on sale before and sometimes for less, but there's rarely this many at once.

The Names of God Bible is on sale at Christianbook for $2.39 (it's $20 at B&N and Amazon). The blurb doesn't say so, but it's the God's Word translation from Baker Books with the exception that names of God are transliterated, but left untranslated (Elohim, Yahweh, El Shaddai...). The sample includes most of Genesis if you're not sure if this is for you.
Christianbook

The MacArthur Study Bible NASB is $4.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The Orthodox Study Bible is $4.99. The Old Testament is a translation of the Greek Septuagint (including Apocrypha) "in the style of the NKJV" and the New Testament is the NKJV. It's one of my favorites.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

Thomas Nelson's King James Study Bible is $6.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

NKJV Bibles:

The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible NKJV is $3.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The Jesus Calling Devotional Bible is $4.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The MacArthur Study Bible NKJV is $4.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible is $5.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The NKJV Study Bible: Full Color Edition is $7.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

NIV Bibles:

The Chronological Study Bible NIV is $4.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The Case for Christ Study Bible is $4.99.
Christianbook B&N Amazon

The Great Rescue (NIV): Discover Your Part in God's Plan is $4.99.

Two HarperCollins-published titles I spotted at Amazon US:

Witness to Hope by George Weigel
$2.99 Amazon US

A biography of Pope John Paul II. I haven't read this yet but I understand this book was originally written when JP II was still alive, i.e. may not cover his entire life.

Publisher's blurb:
Spoiler:
Quote:
Witness to Hope is the authoritative biography of one of the singular figures -- some might argue the singular figure -- of our time. With unprecedented cooperation from John Paul II and the people who knew and worked with him throughout his life, George Weigel offers a groundbreaking portrait of the Pope as a man, a thinker, and a leader whose religious convictions defined a new approach to world politics -- and changed the course of history. As even his critics concede, John Paul II occupied a unique place on the world stage and put down intellectual markers that no one could ignore or avoid as humanity entered a new millennium fraught with possibility and danger.

The Pope was a man of prodigious energy who played a crucial yet insufficiently explored role in some of the most momentous events of our time, including the collapse of European communism, the quest for peace in the Middle East, and the democratic transformation of Latin America. This updated edition of Witness to Hope explains how this "man from a far country" did all of that, and much more -- and what both his accomplishments and the unfinished business of his pontificate mean for the future of the Church and the world.

Catholicism: New Study Edition by Richard McBrien
$3.79 Amazon US

A very thick and intellectually demanding book--I own a paperback of this too. Note that the book was written before Popes Benedict XVI and Francis.

The publisher's blurb isn't helpful so I'm quoting Library Journal:
Spoiler:
Quote:
This thorough revision of McBrien's best-selling summary of Roman Catholic theology, history, and moral values is an important statement of what it means to be a Catholic Christian. McBrien, a priest and professor of theology at Notre Dame, provides a marvelous synthesis of contemporary interpretations in a compendium designed for the general reader. Throughout, McBrien is faithful to tradition and to contemporary scholarship; he does not hesitate to raise probing questions and to suggest needed changes in teaching and practices. Human existence, God, Jesus Christ, the Church, the sacraments, Christian morality, and Christian spirituality all receive intensive treatment; Orthodox and Protestant views receive respectful consideration. Essential for all libraries, including those with earlier editions.

Apparently the Catholicism book is largely a compilation of the writer's thoughts and opinions.

Could be; I originally got the paperback because I had heard it was used as a textbook in universities. I haven't done more than read snippets of the book, and much of that was over my head.

The size and weight alone of the paperback are themselves disincentives to reading the book, hence my recent purchase of the e-book. It does seem a very divisive title, based on the online reviews.
