Failure to include audio and OverDrive means my ereader stays home when I take trips. I don't t like taking multiple gadgets with me. |

I love the look of it - but at £295 for 3G including the amazon case this might be the Kindle model I miss out. shouldn't have bought the PW2!
But as the reviews roll in, will my resolve crumble... |

I don't have a problem with their marketing strategy and I don't feel deprived having to leave my ereader at home. There are other forms of media to keep me occupied on a trip. It would've been nice to have audio, but not essential.

I'm in for the Voyage, at the very least for a test drive. Yes it's expensive, probably too much. I think the light sensor is unnecessary and that could be driving the price up somewhat.
But based on the specs and the videos I have to say that it looks really good. Resolution is easily what I care about the most and 300ppi is really great. Based on what I saw in the videos, the contrast is clearly better too. I love physical buttons and the tactical feedback squeezing looks like it works. Both of these upgrades are important to me. Anyway, I'm in for this expensive but definitely promising device. |

Oh and the Basic Kindle "upgrade" is kind of joke IMO. They should have upgraded the ppi. No buttons, bulkier, resolution that will be buried under more glass due to the touch interface. Not impressed.

I think it might simply be that they have access to the usage stats on these various devices and can see that audio simply wasn't a major usecase for their ereaders and they have apps on everything so that covers the voice whispersync needs without adding to the material costs of the ereader for something that would be rarely used by many.

There's no more "glass" in a touch device than a non-touch one. If it's an IR touch screen, there's nothing physical on the screen at all; if it's a capacitive touch screen, there's a transparent chemical "paint" on the screen which detects touches. But no glass, either way.

Interesting that you go with such a restrictive setup when you travel, personally I take my kindle everywhere as it is small enough and light enough to go in a jacket pocket, so it has no impact on any packing decisions I might make.

For me it's eInk reader for reading (currently Onyx T68), iPhone for audio.

I take one device, be it a laptop, an ereader, or a tablet. It would've been nice to have a multi-function ereader, but not essential.

Does anyone know why the Kindle Voyage is more expensive than their tablets? That just seems strange to me. I was thinking of making a switch from the Aura to Kindle this go around but not at that price. Also, again the Japanese Kindle 3G only works in Japan? That is just so nuts.
