I've looked through this thread and the FAQ, but I can't quite find the answer I'm looking for. I have Calibre installed on two different computers, and before I started using Kindle Collections, I would add books to my Voyage from both computers, with my home computer being the "main" library. Since I got my new Voyage (due to damage to the old one), I installed the Jailbreak and Kindle Collections (I didn't use it on my previous Voyage) I've been only adding books from the "main" computer, using Tags to create the collections. If I add books to the Voyage from the secondary computer, using Tags with the same names as the main computer, will those books now show up in the correct collections without deleting the previously existing books? When I next add books from the main computer, and then update using Librarian Sync KUAL on the Voyage, will the books from the secondary computer no longer show up in the collections? Are there certain options I need to use both in Calibre and in the Librarian Sync KUAL on the Voyage to maintain the books from both computers?

@stevebw: Unlikely to be caused by the (plugin) update, it was comprised only of fairly trivial changes that are nowhere near the processing code.
Check the output in a shell (i.e., run calibre through calibre-debug -g), my guess is something's wonky with the metadata cache. 4K books on a K3 is bound to be slow without a cache, and even with a cold cache, or even validating it might be long, especially if the USB connection gets wonky... @BrentB: If you enable incremental db updates and *never* delete books, you're good to go (on the Kindle side, at least).
Anything more complex will need a *strict* synchronization of the Library/DB between your Calibre installs (which is what I do between my desktop & laptop, for instance, with a simple rsync call). |

Thanks. Sounds like it might be easiest if I use Dropbox to store my library so I can access it from any of the three computers from which I use Calibre.

Not sure to which extent that's feasible, never looked into it. I do vaguely remember the FAQ mentioning how terrible an idea it was to try to store the library on a remote drive, so, double-check that beforehand?

Dropbox is much more similar to rsync than to a NAS.
![]() Obviously take the standard precautions... don't run Dropbox/rsync while calibre is running, make sure the library is fully synced before and after running calibre. Last edited by eschwartz; 04-26-2016 at 12:50 PM. Reason: typo |

There's been a couple of times where it gave me an error when saving edits to metadata or something, but when I click on OK a second time it always works. Been editing metadata, adding tags, converting formats for multiple books, adding them to my Voyage, and running Kindle Collections for the past couple of days without any problems other than that. |

@katayoun: On which exact OS is this? And does the model autodetection in the settings actually work?
@BrentB: Good to know, thanks for the feedback ![]() |

@katayoun: Just check the settings in the plugin (cf. first post). There's a model combobox, which *should* autodetect things properly on first start.

Guess I do need to double-check Windows autodetection with recent Calibre versions, then... ^^.

I finally managed to make Kindle Collections work and sort books according to series
![]() On the Customize Kindle Collections part, I left everything blank in the row for the "Finished Reading" column but I set the dropdown menu for it to "Create". I placed the text "read" under that particular column to mark books I've read. However, when I run preview, only the series gets sorted into collections and not the custom "Finished Reading" column. Can anyone help me? Or is there a better way to have a collection for books I'm done reading? Thank you! ![]() Last edited by melovesflying; 05-13-2016 at 10:13 PM. |
