Kindle Touch - first thoughts

There is no additional pages in "settings". You can manually set the time but there is no "date" as Kindle only shows the time in the upper right corner.
If you didnt want ads, then you should have bought the non-ad version. If you dont connect it, then you cant download any books from Amazon. You can probably download books that you have on your computer through Calibre but I think you need to register it to use it.
Frankly the ad on the bottom of the content page is a non issue for me. There are no ads when you open a book to read. If you never have to have the wifi on but then you will never get any updates either. I will turn on the wifi only when I want to add another book. Otherwise it is off to give me maximum battery time.

The K4 NT also suffers from this. Once they get the Kindle Collections plugin to work with the Touch you can install your own font which will fix that.

I have no need to register for what I am reading or will ever read with it.
It works fine without registering except for the date and the time. The date shows up only in history of what and when it was read. You say it can be done manually. So how do I manually set the time ?
The ads may not be bad now but what will they be in the future ? I am betting much,much more. Thanx

Hmm... I thought the time set automatically when you connect... but I guess that is only with 3G since Cell towers include a time signal.

I though I recall a time set option in settings.

Why not register it so the time is set then deregister it... Not sure why you don't want it registered... seems strange to me. You won't be able to read any books bought in the Amazon store unless they are DRM free.

I have no need to register to read the PDF files I am reading. I know as soon as I register I will get ads even if I deregister. I won't be buying anything from the Amazon store. I just don't want to be bothered by the ads.

There is nothing in settings that I can find to set time. The manual says there should be a selection for DEVICE OPTIONS within the Settings but it must not be available until after registration. 3G model is the only one with auto time set per manual. Thanx

If it's like my K4 non-touch, the time-set option will show up after you register it.

The ads don't get worse; they disappear. I bought my K4 NT Special Offers in the middle of October. I don't have wifi so I drove to McDonald's to register it. I then turned off wifi and that's the last wireless connection it's seen.

Around the 1st of November the ads went bye-bye. Since then, there is a small rectangle at the bottom of the screensaver and Home page that says "Please connect wirelessly to download the latest Special Offers".

There is now only one screensaver; the one with the typesetting letters for "READER". I'd seen it before in pictures of the non-ad K4s, if I remember correctly.

So after you wait for the ads to disappear you shouldn't be bothered by them anymore. Not sure how long it takes. Maybe the ads expire at the end of the month, or maybe every couple of weeks; either of those scenarios would fit my experience.

Seriously the Ads are a non-issue. They only show on the home page and take up about 5 lines or so on the bottom. 99% of the time I am reading a book so don't see them, except for the screensaver... and all of the ads have been quite nice images.

I think there might be a factory reset (don't recall) so if you don't like the ads you can reset it.

Just pay $40 to have the ads remove. Problem solved.

This document is free It's only about translating. Mobi can be translated easily then PDF. I'll get my Kindle Touch on next Monday, but i can't wait so long. That's why am looking for someone who can send me this file. It's not about copyright, this file is same on all of kindles touch and not encrypted by Amazon... Thanks for understanding.

Install Kindle4PC. Go to your MYK page and find the Touch's guide and send it to Kindle4PC. This what I did with the K4.

I have noticed that the default Sans Serif font gives the darkest and crispiest font on the new Kindle device. I've switched to it and it's a lot better for my eyes. I still prefer the regular font in general though but this would suffice for now.

HE could easily read it on his PC as a PDF without even needing Cloud Reader. I'm not sure the issue here. If he just wants to read it the PDF is there, available, for him to get.

As I said, call Amazon... they might just send it to you. You can ask them in a support email.

It's available in his Archive items. All he has to do is have it sent to K4PC or Cloud Reader or any Kindle app.

In archived items, i don't see Kindle Touch manual, only all others Kindles.
