My magnet is on the backside of the clip on light, but hopefully it is insulated or isolated from the DX also. I tested my magnet and it seems pretty strong. ![]() |

I do like the Pathway tasklight it lights up the whole DX better than any booklight I have tried. I really am loving reading the DX every night and the clicking of the buttons have quieted up from the first day. I thought that would drive me nuts, but it is quieter now. Also the flashing of page turn does not bother me like the flashing of the K3 I had. I think ever since they upgrade to 3.3 it flashed pages faster and it hurt my eyes more. Just my theory. I am happy with the DX ![]() |

I tried folding the front cover over the back to clip the light on the front like Tom says he does, but I like holding onto the front cover like a hardback book. Just personal preferences I guess. |

I do love the Amazon Kindle leather cover because the elastic band (when I move it to open the Kindle) can be placed directly over the Kindle DX and there is absolutely no chance of it flopping around if I go to sleep and drop it on the bed, or move it. So I am not OCD about it as I once was about the hinges breaking the Kindle DX. I will never go back to a small Kindle again. |

New,
I think that the main potential problem with the dxg hinges cracking the dxg case was caused by people trying to open the wrong (back) cover side first. Amazon addressed this problem by modifying it to include an elastic strap (like the K3) so you definitely know which is the front side, even though the original magnetic cover (which I use, no problems btw) already had a nice silver logo plate to help remind you. This was all done to try to make it a little more 'idiot-proof' imho. Even with this newer cover you can still damage your dxg case by purposely opening up the rear cover too much. For this reason I'd strongly recommend you do not continue to jam a clipon light between the rear cover and the dxg case. I suggest you just fold it over and use the clipon onto the front cover. All these Amazon dxg (and k3) covers are designed to be used folded over. I find it pretty hard to understand why anyone would want to use them otherwise. Like you say, it's pretty hard to go back to a 6 inch once you've tried a 9.7 inch, lol! Cheers, TomC |

I tried it several days with the front folded back over the back and the light I use gets dimmer the further away it is, and I didn't like it. Also, as I load up on cream on my hands before going to bed or I forget. So the soft insides of the cover gets ruined. Yes gloves would work, but who wants to? So I tried my other light with three bulbs and that was better. But for some reason I like the leather to hold on to rather than the fuzzy insides. Also the cover helps confine the light to the area you want (it directs it by the cover being half closed). Go figure. We are not all the same. ![]() Do you really think jamming the booklight in the back really would hurt the hinge that much? If I knew I could replace this after a year or so I wouldn't worry about and just enjoy it. But the 9.7" ebook future isn't very promising. So I will keep figuring out what to do. Thanks for your help ![]() Last edited by new; 12-16-2011 at 02:30 PM. |
