That sounds pretty good. Where did you find the numbers? Seems weird that Amazon is downplaying the performance improvement. Yeah, that does make sense, I didn't think of it. Thanks |

Wonder what the back is made of...looks like the back of the K2, probably plastic though I can't stand the fingerprint collector on the K3. |

My expectation is that for the most part, Fire will not have artificial restrictions on the apps one can get from App Store (except where apps have hardware requirements not fulfilled by Fire, like webcam or aGPS). So 3rd party reading apps like Kobo, Aldiko, Mantano, ezPDF etc., should work okay. There's your ePub-Kindle support. Will be interesting to see if B&N will submit their Nook app...

You need to login to the Dropbox web site with the Kindle browser. Then you can access any non DRM mobi/azw you might have ( but not PDF).

Speaking of Dropbox, the app is not currently in Amazon App Store. Hope that will change. We should see more apps showing up even before Fire launches, as app publishers realize the potential and necessity of reaching Fire customers directly.

As for the new cases... I don't like the look and the limited color choices, but I do like the light. I can see myself getting K4s for my kids, if they're interested. Not so sure about the KTs though. Again I'd want to play with one in person.

Another way I do it, is I download a book from Dropbox on my phone then send it through my email to my kindle from my phone. The Dropbox Andriod app does has a Share a file option so I use that on my phone to go straight to gmail with the file attached then I send it to my Kindle like I would any other email. As the Fire is running on an older version of Android, heavily modified by Amazon (fork), it would not surprise me if only a subset of the apps will be available for the fire. And it would also not suprise me if ePub reader apps and other apps that compete with Amazon would not be among those supported apps.

One of the now-proven-to-be-accurate prognosticators cited the CPU model; I looked it up and that was the spec. I'd like confirmation of course.

The limited internal storage, lack of an external card slot, lack of support for epub format.......eh, think I will pass for now.
