No one ever beat Apple by making a product checklist and checking off more boxes than them.

And it works...they are the second most valuable company in the world and they keep growing. People buy one thing...an iPod, an iPhone and they get sucked in. Apple simply does something for consumers that no other consumer electronics company does. The money doesn't lie.

This is an important period for Android. It’s become the number one mobile OS on the planet, but solely because Apple, as one company contracting with one manufacturer, can’t possibly keep up with the demand for the phones they’ve designed and aren’t interested in producing a wide enough range of hardware to suit every whim. So Google has achieved market dominance more or less for free.

The review is probably too kind. Several commenters, both over there and here, have pointed out that it lacks some of the functionality of the native app . Now I'm no techie, but my understanding is that it may never be as full featured as the native app.I think the issue for Amazon and its customers is whether its a decent backup to the native app in case of an emergency. And as we have seen, there is no guarantee that the native app will always be on Ios platform.
The good thing is that is a 1.0 release, and will only get better. We know Amazon certainly WILL spend the resources to make it better, after the late unpleasantness with the Apple approval process.

Bang on. Apple has built an ecosystem-the Ios platform- that is a wonderful business model. It sells devices, which sells and delivers content, which sells more devices.Its been a money making machine, too. As I said, it is Apple's SYSTEM, rather than its individual products, that is "insanely great".
Amazon has been taking notes and is definitely aspiring to build a similar model. The Kindle itself is an example of the model, with the Kindle bearing the same relation to the Kindle Store as the Ipod to Itunes. Just as Apple built out its ecosystem with other devices-Iphone, Ipod touch, Ipad-Amazon is adding at least 1 Ipad type tablet and maybe another smaller tablet to its lineup -tablets that it will use to sell video, apps ,music, and games. Heck , the only thing missing is a phone-that' ll come next year....

I'll take a Sansa Clip+ over an iPod nano any day. It's a better player with more features at a substantially lower price.

I have a Cowon J3. Husband wishes he could replace his Apple MP3 player (no idea what model it is, don't care) with it, but for various reasons that are complicated, he can't. Ah well.
